What would you do if your boyfriend/girlfriend did this?

Say the work mainly night shifts sometimes getting home at around 2am. They don't shower or do anything else when they get back, they just game until they fall asleep.

If you don't get them food or drinks they won't do that. They won't wash their clothes for work. They get up probably a few hours before their shift and game again. And the cycle repeats.

On their days off the game. They don't do anything even if you ask them for help. They don't wanna go out. They probably are on the computer for about 16 hours. They shower once a month and even then you have to force them.

What do you do? How do you react?

They seem depressed.

They game because it’s the only thing that stimulates their mind and they enjoy, and they only work because they need to for basic food items and the bills which would include payment to keep their essentials running like: the gaming system.

They work night shifts most likely due to a poor sleeping schedule, and the gaming may contribute to it and be the main cause, or it may be a cycle where they’re moods and stress prolonged their sleep time and used gaming to occupy that time.

Either way it helps them avoid people on a daily basis unless their town has places that stay open late; etc.

Point is if I don’t think I can aid them out of that. Like assist them or give them sparks of motivation and practicality, I’d just opt to leave them. A person like that- if they don’t change or contribute in some way would just be a mental/ emotional/ lifestyle/ and possibly later, a financial burden/ form of baggage to the other partner/ spouse.

It’d definitely cost something from the other partner- even if they had a strong sense of will and aspirations.

first of all... I would not call them my girlfriend, because we are definitely not living in a relationships

second... I would get in touch with their parents, siblings any family or relatives, because this person needs some serious help with that level of either, depression, addiction or something else they've going through because this stuff is just not normal at all...

they need intervention from me, not for me to enable this already extreme situation...

Yeah definitely calls for a major choice from the other partner- intervention of some sort or lead/leave them to some other source to grow out of that, but definitely, deciding to not enable them would be a plus as well. The least they can do.

well, it is a very difficult vicious cycle to stop, as @Rosexøxø already illustrated...

so, extreme measures for extreme cases... unfortunately, as a partner, those are your choices, confront them about or leave them because you literally can't do a thing for them if they do not want to help themselves

at the very least, consult with a professional yourself, as a partner, get informed and aware about how someone has helped others out of these situations

Wait till they get home. Stand in front of the door as they unlock it and when they open it and stand froze looking at you - and throw a bucket of warm water or warm soapy water on them. If they say WTH? You say you’re not coming in here till you bathe! I just helped speed it up. March them upstairs, strip them if they won’t do it on their own, possibly push them into the shower and turn it on. Stay there anc watch them if you like 😉🙂

I'm sorry he'd be out the door. Only a child should need to be reminded to shower, not a grown man. I'd take his gaming stuff and toss it right out the door, then him right behind it. He's acting like a child not a responsible adult.
