This is complete nonsense. He might be telling you the truth, but if he is it's even worse than him lying, because it means he hasn't remotely figured out how to live his own adult life.

I'd do a hard pass on this one, personally. I have always been turned off by adult men who don't live on their own. (Sometimes a roommate is financial necessity. But staying with parents indefinitely stunts people.)

Is he religious? Have you already talked to him about how important that is to you? Have you met his friends? Does he not have a good relationship to his family?
