We are both 26, in our first relationship, and we met on hinge in June 2022; we made things official in August, and things are going great for us.
My boyfriend is also adopted and mentioned this to me on our second date; his parents are very much old-school Catholics, according to him. He did note his father was controlling towards him, such as expecting him to attend church, cut his hair, etc.
I first met his mom in October 2022 during one of his recreational hockey games, and we chatted a bit. At this time, I also met his brother, and during that first meeting, I felt as if they were a bit apprehensive of me; my boyfriend was immensely annoyed at his mom for how she had introduced herself.
The second time I saw his mom was during another of his recreational hockey games back in December, and this time she was a bit more friendly; we chatted, and she even shared her blanket with me as I was a bit cold.
They had kindly invited me over to their home for Christmas this past holiday season, so I attended their brunch, dinner and church. During this time, I noticed the dynamic lol between his parents, as they seemed to argue back and forth; his dad called a woman on tv stupid as she had placed her shoes in a bathtub on an HGTV show, and then his dad was telling his mom, she drove like a woman lol, it was all this weird gender/misogynistic tone the entire time, their dad even began yelling at my boyfriend for some issues happening with his car.
So the atmosphere was honestly so weird, and then his dad just sat in their second living room watching TV the entire time and didn't interact much except to ensure I ate some food; they got me lovely Christmas gifts, but the vibe was so weird.
Anyhow, we are coming on our six months anniversary, and we are doing fine. Still, these are just weird observations I have made about his family dynamic, and I was wondering if this is usual. He mentioned that his family likes me, but the vibe is so off.

His genetic are not the parents do it is very hard to draw a conclusion. The parents do not sound like they have a good relationship nor css as n they interrelate. Your guy sounds like an aware person and has gently warned and maneuvered you through the family obstacle course.
