“Flirting isn’t cheating” why has this been normalized?

I have heard that one a lot. I had a debate with a buddy of mine who said that flirting isn't cheating.

i told him that flirting means showing interest in someone, so it is cheating since you are trying something to happen and send signs that you are interested. He still said it isn't cheating.

so i asked him if his girlfriend flirted with someone else how he would feel. Thats when he kind of got silent, and after thinking for a bit he said “its different for guys and girls”. I laughed and said its the same for both.

The problem is the word "cheating." People get into silly arguments about things lke whether kissing a grl oher than your girlfriend is "technically" cheating since it isn't actually the same thing as having sex. That doesn't matter. A girl could say getting naked with another guy isn't "technically" cheatong if they didn't have sex, but how many guys wold be okay with their girlfriend getting naked with another dude?

The question is whether your behavior violates a promise you made or a reasonable expectation your partner has. If it does, then you have violated their trust. And once you violate someone's trust even once, they will never again trust you 100% absolutely, and in all likelihood, your relationship will soon end.

I agree with you. Flirting is ambiguously indicating sexual interest that can be denied.

I believe that academic studies find that couples tend to shut down attempts to flirt and certainly I found it necessary, when in a relationship, to avoid being 'distracted'. The same study found that if partnered people did flirt they became less satisfied with their partner.

So partners intuitively know they need to mate guard this.

I haven't read these papers and am just relating a description on a youtube video.

it's been normalized because the western gynocentric social order has dictated that if you don't allow bad behaviors to exist and boundaries to be crossed, then you're just "insecure" and the problem is you. gaslighting tactic by the way

First of all, 'normal' is just a setting on a wahing machine.

Second, the only one in charge of your moral compass is yourself. I could not care less what society deems acceptable or not; maybe I have shit faith in my peers, but I wouldn't assume mob rule is right by proxy.
