Why did my Ex boyfriend's friend view my instagram stories?

I caught the friend viewing my instagram highlights. He clearly didn’t want to get caught. I then followed him and he followed me back. I then noticed that couple days earlier he had followed my bestfriend.

Why would he view my posts since he’s never met me and he’s best friends with the guy I used to talk to? He’s often literally first person to view my stories.
