Hi! Do you try to avoid the carriers of the redhead gene while selecting a partner?

Question

Natural redheads inherit two versions of the MC1R gene that leads to red hair – one from their mum and one from their dad. I know that many people hate red hair in my country and also the UK. The hair colour may change with age but the genome remains the same. Curious to know your thoughts.

I can honestly say, that whether a woman was the carrier of the redhead gene would be of zero consideration for me. Zero. I feel like answering yes to this question... would be insane. Just insane. Who could possibly care about this enough to not choose some partner they otherwise would. WHY would anyone possibly care that much? That's crazy.

Shit, I think about half of my ex's are red-heads. Never once have I thought about this. Because... i couldn't possibly care less.

To me, this is like asking "do you avoid left-handed people when selecting a partner"

It's crazy if you do.

In the grand scheme of things, redheads are just behind brunettes, and way ahead of blondes, in the likability department.

In Scotland, being a ginger is like a badge of courage. And Ireland is the home of many redheads.

I would never avoid dating someone because of their natural hair color. Maybe if it was some weird colored shade of purple, I might avoid them though.

Not everyone in India hates redheads. I, for one, do not care about my partner’s hair color. I do prefer dark hair since I’m more familiar with it, but if a red head was interested in me, I would not reject him based on his hair color alone.

I find red hair hot. If I were to have a kid with someone who had red hair and the baby turns out to be a redhead, I would love him/her regardless. It is a recessive gene, so highly unlikely that my kid would end up with red hair since I do not have the gene myself.

I used to, because so many people in my family have that redhead gene. It would have felt weird if I went for it. It's not really a minority in my family. I have a bunch in my immediate family, and on the other side, there's a bunch, too. Then a bunch of cousins and step family on my direct side.

At this point, though, if I do happen to meet someone who's going to be cool, down to earth, fun, calm, and she was a gorgeous redhead, I wouldn't turn her down immediately.

Redheads are rare where I live but I wouldn't avoid dating one if we liked each other.

No, I didn't avoid it and I don't dislike red hair. My husband has a tan complexion with dark brown hair but there's a possibility any children we have could be redheads since his father has red hair. I don't know of anyone with red hair on my side of the family though so who knows. Genetics are interesting!

Nice genetics knowledge, yea it a recessive gene. There is a heroes want redheads trope, it has uniqueness value, it's also a white trait, why would people avoid a unique white hair color?

I never understood why people dislike red hair so much. I always thought red hair is cute!
The only thing is it can look odd when they have red eyebrows and eyelashes but dying them or getting them tinted is always an option.

Im not planning on having anymore kids,(At least not biologically. Might adopt one day) but I dont think someone’s physical traits such as their hair color would stop me from having a child with them

Nope. I would never refuse a date just because of hair colour, since I like redhead women. That doesn't mean that I only date redheads. But my successful relationships (we broke up under good terms) were with redheads.

I have never dated, but I don't think it would be possible for my offspring to have read hair. I'm 1/4 black and 1/4 Asian. 1/2 white. From how my physical appearance has turned out, I'd be genuinely surprised if I ever had a ginger kid lol
