What’s the most awkward thing that has happened to you on a first date?

I had the most awkward first date ever.

So, this guy has been asking me out a few times since our 1st meeting & I decided to give it a try. Have you ever seen an Asian guy with natural green eyes? He’s the one.

The date was going perfectly, he took me to a zoo of some exotic animals, that was adorable, then he took me for a dinner to taste the Korean cuisine I’ve never tried before. We clicked really well and he was telling me, he wants us to meet each other often and he’s really happy we met and that he couldn’t imagine it would be so smooth and fun to have a dinner with me. Then after dinner, he told me he wanted to take me to a lakeside restaurant to drink tea and enjoy the beautiful view from the lake and then walk around lake together.

So, that’s when the disaster started! When we went out of restaurant I went to bathroom to add my lipstick, and when I looked in the mirror my period had obviously leaked, this has never happened to me, I don’t know why the hell it happened exactly today,

I felt really awkward as you can imagine, because everything was going so well and suddenly I was in such an awkward situation, I told him I was on my period and had some emergency and had to go and buy a new pant. 🤣 I hope he wasn’t too grossed out. He realized what was the problem and told me, it’s okay, don’t worry, I’ll take you to a nice shop. He took me to a shop, I shopped, I asked him to wait for me outside, bought a new pant and then we walked around lake and talked, while he was carrying my shopping bags.

Then by the lake, he told me I had very beautiful eyes, for a moment I think he wanted to kiss me, but I looked away cause I think it is too early and I want to take things slow.

Then I told him I was sleepy and it’s time to go home. We haven’t talked much on our way back.

When he took me home, he said let me kiss you goodbye and kissed my hand. He said it was nice to meet me and that he would see me later. But I feel like I ruined a date.

Hmm… The most awkward moments on dates for me is when there have been a mismatch in terms of sense of humor.

When they’re doing something or showing me something that they think is funny, but I don’t find it very funny, or vice versa.

Laughing genuinely versus laughing out of politeness just hits different. 🤣

On another note…

That tells me that the period didn’t ruin the date. He was clearly still interested, and wanted to just carry on with the date as if the incident didn’t happen, and even wanted to kiss you.

What I believe happened is that when you turned away, it made him feel rejected, like you weren’t interested in him.

To add to that, you told him that you were sleepy and it was time to go home.

That would have further reinforced that feeling of rejection and discouraged him from making any further advances, because he respects your boundaries.

But of course, being rejected can often take out someone’s pep in their step.

I believe it would have been best to just let him know that you feel like like things were going to fast and you would like to take things slow.

Communicating that with him wouldn’t feel like a rejection.

It would have been very understandable, especially for a gentlemanly man.

Just wanted to save you the awkwardness, if something like this ever happens again. ☺️

First date.. This is so bad I am post as anon.

So we were so into each other, sexting and pics and teasing till we decided it's time to meet, that day was so weird coz nothing was working for me, electricity cuts in my area code, rain, thunderstorms in the morning, traffic and lateness to all my meetings which is so rare.

And here's the funny part. I packed my stuff in a bag coz I just had a panic about the date going well. And wanted to save on time by getting ready at work.

I forgot to pack boxers, Then decided to go commando. When the date arrived she was so pretty and date and alcohol was flowing well. She'd constantly stare with her big beautiful eyes in such seductive looks. I didn't realise how hard I was getting. Then those fucking khakis betrayed me big time, I developed a wet spot that she noticed and pointed out.

I was so embarrassed about that. She was super sweet about it and took it as a complement. She said she was wet too.

This ended well for me as we decided to try moving to a more private place and boom that was when all that shit was all worth it.

From a girls perspective, yeah, that was awkward, but his reaction to the whole thing is probably a good sign you should continue on dating him if he and you are up for it.

My awkward date came from going to a restaurant I'd never been to and wanting to check it out. The greeter walked us to our table and we settled in. Next thing I see, the waiter is approaching and it's this guy I knew in high school. We never dated, but we had a fall out as friends in high school because he was such a d-bag to me and other people. He instantly recognized me and his face soured, probably, as did mine. In my mind, I was trying to be like, okay, this was years ago, we've all moved on in life, whatever, but this guy apparently never changed his ways.

He proceeded to take an extra long ridiculous time with our service as compared to all his other tables which my date pointed out. We could never find him for a drink refill or to take our order until we literally had to flag him down with him rolling his eyes and making comments under his breath. Eventually my date was like, uh, is that like your ex or something, and I was like, hell no, but as I'm trying to explain the situation obviously the guy is walking back and fourth. Ugh, it was so distracting and annoying that I almost went to complain to the manager for the poor service, but in the end, I was just like, clearly this dude has never changed and never will, so I just let it go. I honestly don't think my date believed me or maybe we just had a bad date, but never saw him, my ex classmate, or went to that restaurant again.

He called me another girls name 4 times and forgot to remove his wedding ring. I tried to sneak out with the help of the bar staff but as i was running to the exit, one of them dropped something and it made a loud clatter. It made everyone turn (including him) and he saw me running out. I got round the corner and turned back... he had followed me out and was about to catch up. He asked me if I was okay and thought I was just being shy. So I ended up going back inside with him like an idiot.

The staff basically thought he forced me back in and there was some domestic abuse going on. So they kept coming to our table, till he got annoyed. He ended up leaving the table to speak to the manager. I got up and left. Got to my car and realised that someone parked too close to me. So I got in waited... it was his car. At that point I just pretended to be having an emergency on the phone. He stood there for like 5 mins just watching me through the window trying get my attention and trying to ask if I'm alright. I ended up having to say I had a work emergency like 9 times before he'd move his car and let me leave.

I met her at the restaurant (I was late) and, while saying hello, I knocked over her water glass, soaking her... she was completely wet. She went to the ladies room and I figured she'd never come back... but she did, and we're still together, 7 years later.

Freshman year in college I had a friend who was a commuter that lived in the town. He and his girlfriend said they knew a girl that they would like me to meet. I figured I would go so on Saturday they come to my dorm and pick me up we go to this bar where we met this girl they knew. She was nice looking but she really was sort of obnoxious and she didn't like the fact that I was in Air Force ROTC. She thought I was a baby burner. My friend thought it would be funny if they left me there with her, so he and his girlfriend took off. When we figured it out she said she was going to leave. I asked her if she would give me a ride back to my dorm and she said no. It was a five mile walk in the freezing cold. So when when she started to drive away I jumped on the hood of her car and held on. She drove through the parking lot trying to shake me off but I had a good grip on the hood. Finally she stopped and let me in the car. We had a real quiet ride back to my dorm.

And yes. I have been on so so many awkward dates. I met up with someone online we chatted for a week before then. We met in person and could tell he wanted to leave ASAP. I hugged him at the end which was my mistake because he just wanted to leave 🥲 Nothing bad happened but I guess he had different expectations (and he was abit snobby so bullet dodged!).

I had another date where we went to the moviee and after the movie was finished, I saw my make up smeared everywhere and had to leave the bathroom looking like a raccoon 😭😭😭

One girl I went out with a few years ago wasn't super interactive. We just had a lot of awkward pauses.

On my first date with my wife, we had to try four different places. There was a HUGE thunderstorm the night before that knocked out power for a large are of the city. The first two places were closes because they still didn't have power. The third place was crowded, smelled disgusting, and wasn't in a great part of town. The fourth place finally worked though.

It was kind of like the "building a castle in a swamp" scene from Monty Python and the Holy Grail.

A girl I met on tinder, we met up at a bar in town and had some cocktails, things were going good.. I asked if she’d like to come back to my flat and relax for a while afterwards, she said yes. She sat with me for a couple hours at my flat and our conversation was going great, I made her laugh a lot. But then she made up some excuse of “my brother just text me and he needs me to go help him” and told me she’d be back in half an hour. She left and didn’t come back. I tried to message her to ask where she was and if she was okay, but she’d unmatched with me on tinder. Lol. She was ridiculously hot though, like supermodel 10/10. So even if she ditched me, I still consider myself lucky that I got a date with her in the first place.

Have you talked to him since? I mean guys can be pretty shy. At least that’s what my guy is. Didn’t answer me after I texted him about my scores, but when I asked him for help on some questions he responded to me several hours later and apologized. I texted him the next day and then he responded right away. We are both terrible texters but it would be nice if he would just ask me out already. We make jokes and laugh at each other in person. But we haven’t been in person together for a little over a month. I’m hopeful though. Fingers crossed it works out!

When I was 20 my boss kept trying to set me up with his friends daughter. He pestered me for months about it and I kept saying no. One day I get a call and its the girl asking me on a date. I felt bad that she put herself out there so I said yes.

On the date the conversation was lack luster. So I started asking her questions. She'd respond and then ask me the same question. I'd respond and she'd back track and change her answer to mine. Questions like whats your favorite band? It was pathetic that she would change her answer to mine on every simple question. At the end of the date I drove her home and she wouldn't get out. I knew she was waiting for a kiss that was never going to happen. So I just started yawning and talking about how tired I was. Took 10 minutes of this before she got the clue to get out but not before inviting me inside. I declined. Longest date of my life.

My boss then pestered me for months about why I wouldn't go on a second date with her.

I had a first date where I showed up 20 minutes late because I had to work late for the first time ever at that job and didn't even have time to go home and get cleaned up as I had planned. We ordered drinks and snacks (it was casual) and talked a few minutes when I realized I was about to get violent diarrhea. I excused myself and went to the bathroom - for about 20 minutes. When I got out I found she had paid the bill and left.
