What happened to that saying "never give up"?

I am 29 and never had a real girlfriend. I am seeking a woman who has never had a boyfriend or any romantic bond with a guy. I want us to be each other's first real relationship.

I met this girl at work and started to take a liking to her, then I found out she had a high school sweetheart and I was devastated. I called my friends to talk about it, and they said I need to give up my search of finding a woman without a romantic past. A lot of people are saying the same, but I just don't want to give up and be be alone the rest of my life.

Never give up applies to realistic dreams or goals that depend only on your own ability and persistence.

It cannot apply to situations where you are not the only person with agency.

You CAN find women your age with zero romantic experience, but you must acknowledge the facts of this requirement: it's rare and gets rarer the older you get.

You don't have to give up, but you have to acknowledge and accept that you may end up alone for life if you insist on not giving up.

Your friends are right. It is an unrealistic and unreasonable request, and hampers not only your ability to find a girlfriend but limits you to a pool that is likely not to want a relationship or who are equally as bad at relationships as you are.

It could be a match made in Heaven. More accurately it will be a match made in Desperation Hell, though.

If you're obsessed with finding this, that's your won't. But you have to face the facts: you will face an ever-vanishing pool of candidates.
