Yes I think kissing is something one has to learn but someone who understands they have to learn will do so. Maybe tell him: "I would really apreciate if you... the next time we come close/kissed", that way you tell him in a respectful way to change something about it. You don´t need to use that exact words but the idea to tell him your wishes without demanding them could be helpful. Either he gets what you mean and realises what you mean or you have to tell him straight.
