Boyfriend didn’t buy me a present shall I get him something?

My boyfriend don’t get me a birthday present when it was my birthday but he did plan to take me out but got into a car accident and got his car taken off him. Also when he wanted to take me out for dinner for my birthday I cancelled on him because my sister came over. I offered him too come but I think it was too early on in the relationship for him to come also he hasn’t been brought up giving presents out he shows his love in other ways so when we go out to eat and stuff he pays. Shall I buy him a birthday gift? I’ve seen some trainers for $120 and I know he will absolutely love them and the smile on his face will be incredible/amazing. But I don’t know if I’m being stupid because he didn’t buy me anything for my birthday?

so your birthday came and went and he ultimately didn't take you out (once due to the car thing and once due to a cancellation by you) OR get you a gift?

I think if you are with him and it's his birthday you do something for him because that's what you do. your actions for his birthday should not be a reaction to what he did (or didn't do) for your birthday.
