My boyfriend called a friend of mine cute. what did he mean by that, and should I be annoyed?

I posted a pic with a friend of mine working out together, and the next day my boyfriend said I saw you working out with a friend, and I said yes we workout together, and he said “she is cute, but you’re cuter tho of course, relax.”

And I honestly don’t know how to feel about him calling my friend cute out of nowhere! Like what was the point of him saying that? I’m not gonna lie I got annoyed when he said that. So I don’t know how I should respond to this situation?

Other girls do not lose their appeal when a guy settles into an exclusive relationship, and the fact that he thinks your friend is cute doesn't mean that he wants to bang her.

Yes, it was probably naive and ill-advised for him to say this to you. Women don't really want openness, candor, and honesty in a relationship.

Well, a few days ago, when you said that my friend is cute. . . I agree, I thinkl she's cute, too, but. . . that also triggered an insecurity in me. I'm trying to work on it but, in the meanwhile, it would be better for me if you avoid saying things like that around me. I hope you understand that and you're not offended, because I think you're a really great guy!"

It means he thinks she's cute. It's not like men stop having opinions on women's looks if they are in a relastionship.
It also depends on the context. Did he say "Wow, she's cute!" or "your friend's kinda cute," like he's wondering why she's single, or was it in a responde to a question about her looks?

could have been an awkard attempt at humor and a way to compliment you. Have you ever commented on your friend's looks to him before?
Sounds to me like a bad attempt at a joke/compliment aimed at you. The first part was to make you a bit jealous then the second part was to reassure you he'e joking and is into you.
