My training is in Computer Science, not engineering. However, I've worked alongside many engineers in my career - I used to do research in the aerospace engineering department of a university and about 90% of my current team are electrical engineers.
My perception is that they all view the world as an engineering problem. Everything is discrete, everything is deterministic and if you just look hard enough, you'll find a logical answer. They tend to have problems with philosophical issues, or things that have no right answer. They want to quantify everything; even things that are better reasoned about with a qualitative perspective. Not everything is a math problem.
Aside from that, they're normal people. Some are socially awkward, others aren't. Some are nerdy, others aren't. Some are difficult to get along with, others aren't. Some are awkward with the opposite sex and others aren't.
I've never met an engineer who didn't have a fondness for booze.

if they are my age i assume they are manually skilled like me but if they are young i do tend to think of them as someone with a degree but doesn't know how to hold a spanner. sorry but i have had to train a few and its very hard work
Engineers (and those studying in undergrad) range from socially awkward to socially thriving. I tend to attract them (many different types of engineering but still. Everywhere I look, they try to date me or befriend me lol). I've noticed nerdier types in mechanical and electrical engineering though. And strangely, those types are always into some Lovecraft shit, anything sci-fi goes hahaha
I think money $. Sorry I am program that way. I also think damn he must be one smart man. Hahaha please marry me. I literally don't want end up with a dead beat. Literally if your in IT, Trades, or military. I will be impress to the point of potential husband material.
All the engineers I know are mining engineers, and they are the loosest c*nts I know. They throw the funnest parties. Lots of female friends that are engineers too, and they're cool af.
But I'm Australian, so there's a different culture and stereotype.

Since I work with them: some of them have a intelligence insecurity (they try to have a dick contest with intelligence with other undergrad nerdy types).. Others have good weird humour e. g. Rick and Morty or big mouth etc.. depends not all are socially awkward in my experience?
I myself as an engineer can easily tell you that i have never seen that "the majority" fits into the description of "socially awkward". Nerd yes but not socially awkward or antisocial. Maybe some are shy but many other are extroverts. Otherwise how would you explain many engineer managers or ceos etc. going out talking in public?
My boyfriend is going to be an engineer. I don't know, I guess I just think they're smart lol extremely patient too because I could never deal with those classes.
I'm not sure if he fits the "nerd" stereotype, I mean a little yes. He's shy, he loves video games, he's very slim, he isn't too social, etc. But i love all these traits about him and he's such a sweetheart <3Well I'm dating one right now 😛 What runs through my head is that they're smart/intelligent, definitely good at math. They don't have to be socially awkward at all, the one I'm dating is not. I have noticed some other engineers I've come across have the tendency of being very arrogant and bashing all other degrees and putting theirs above all else. Not sure they've realised the world needs more than just engineers though... 😂
I like them generally because I suck where they excel. Helps me learn.
Probably really good in math and science.
Someone who is serious, driven and focused.
Someone who probably did lots of all nighters.
Someone who is strong and confident.
Someone who will make a lot of money. Most of them are good kids. Used to hang out with a group of engineers while in uni. None of them liked me beyond friends.
One of my best buds is an engineer. Really smart guy, knows his stuff. We call him the walking wikipedia. I love having him around spewing all types of mechanical knowledge on our group of friends.
Past undergrad itβs being OCD about everything in life lol. To be honest I notice some of it in myself, everything I do is measured twice and done once.
Some Engineering majors I know are kinda pretentious.
Cool... Clever I don't know, it's a career it doesn't matter to me, unless you are a slob that didn't bother with school and won't work etc.
Smart af. Make good money. Usually not good with communication. I have high respect for them. It's so difficult so kudos to u.
GOOD AT MATH! I know because I had an engineer help me with my math I was pretty bad and now im like pretty good at it.
As a female engineer myself, the one stereotype I have often seen confirmed is that engineers like to drink a lot and often.
My best friend is studying engineering and she's defo not a nerd.
I think it's a very admirable profession. Not easy and a lot of schooling.
I went to school to be an engineer so I have my degree but I went into blacksmithing instead
When I think of an engineer, I think of Tony Stark aka Iron Man.
When I think engineer I think Wernher von Braun just like when I think astronomer I think Carl Sagan
If a woman says that, it's a huge turn-on. STEM and brains are the new sexy.
