I just find it such an absurd generalisation to make.
I'm into Computer Science and people have told me they think I'm pretty- and most are usually shocked when I tell them I want a career in computer science.
I don't understand it.
Life = one group of people trashing another. That’s just how it is. Best thing you can do is go do your own thing and don’t let vast generalizations affect you. Be your own person. When I went to college I majored in electrical engineering and minored in mathematics. Was one of only about 20 girls in a class of some 150 peeps. Don’t let it get to you. Do your thing.
Because pretty girls are supposed to just be pretty and do pretty things like make babies and clean the house. Any woman who wants more from life is deemed ugly.
Has nothing to do with how one actually looks.
Erm, I’m an engineer, and I can tell you that almost all girls in engineering, from the ones I studied to the ones I work with are not ones I find attractive i. e. they are ugly
One was so ugly I realised she was a female 6 months into my course, some mega monobrow
Just because you didn't find a few girls in your class/workplace attractive doesn't mean all the girls out there in STEM are unattractive.
Beauty is in the eye of the beholder and is more than just the outside.
Actually their masculine behaviour was also repulsive too.
For the record, no man, none I knew ever even looked in the way of someone in my class.
Now I know that Other fields have better looking people, notably the less intellectual fields like technology degrees and computer science is also better.
Doesn’t change the subject that STEM girls are uglier. This is a fact.
You are a good looking girl though, no doubt in that, butcome and see my old class then speak lol
I do want to take computer science, chemistry and maths next year.
As a girl in STEM I'm definitely more feminine than I am masculine. I'm hopeless at lifting things which are heavy for starters😂😂
In what way were the girls in your class masculine and repulsive?
Because for some idiots, the only thing that matters in a woman is her looks.
Don't let them get you down. Most likely these idiots aren't exactly hunky Adonis types.
STEM and CS definitely need more women!
Agreed xD

well now its common to see many women in these programs... many years ago if you'd walk in a STEM class room... you'd see many one or two girls, and even at that they looked like men
so based on that, a stereotype has been solidified
but it certainly has changed over the years
It's a stereotype people have that all women /girls who do stem subjects don't put effort into looks or are less feminine... Sometimes it's true, but not always like all stereotypes. Chemistry, biology and the science parts of psychology (not psychodynamic psychology because that's not science) are my go to.
I don't know if people actually believe that or not. It's just a kinda false generalization people make but don't really believe. By now, most of us have met some truly hot females in STEM programs. Hard to deny the facts. But I still joke about smart girls being "nerds" all the time. I don't honestly believe that though. It's just jokes.
I have no clue... I'm in STEM and I don't think anyone would call me ugly... in fact, if anything, I've been called hot by way too many guys !!!
It's just a stereotype... I guess us gals in STEM are stuck with it !!!
Nerds usually are in STEM majors. People have the general idea nerds are ugly. None of this makes sense obviously, people don't choose majors based on looks. There are lots of girls in STEM majors that are very pretty. You're one of them :)
There are not many women in computer science courses to begin with. In all the computer science courses I took I saw one slightly above average girl. There were far more attractive women in my biology and chemistry courses though.
No of course not.
I had a gorgeous girlfriend and she was a STEM major.
She got a BS in Computer Systems Engineering and an MS in Industrial Engineering.
Bc they assume women only study hard- which in stem you absolutely have to- if they can’t fall back on their looks
Many women tend to go for jobs that don’t involve that. The group who do are thought to not look feminine
Because the hot women don't get into STEM.
They get into gender studies and scream about the lack of women in STEM.
Because it’s kinda true the ones with great looks don’t usually try because they are spoon fed everything the ones who aren’t work hard and do something with there lives
I've nv heard anyone call STEM girls ugly... But then again I don't really pay attention
Many, but not all are average at best and ugly at worst. That's why
I like women in STEM because it gives me common group to talk about
Mostly they are right for saying that
But why? I don't understand.
Most are not attractive.
You’re the exception. Most are average.
What do you mean "exception"?
I don't know... I've never heard anyone say that.
Coz may be they think beauty and brains are rare.
I think they are cute in an innocent sort of way
