I used to do this professionally before I worked in HR.
It's definitely helpful, especially if you struggle with it, but it isn't necessary.
If you've had poor success with your current resume, it's worth editing it with a professional hand. But not every recruiter is worth their salt.
Unless they can do better than you, just do it yourself.

What they actually do is put in a ton of key words for the idiot HR software to home in on.
I would suggest taking the job description and incorporating the boldest key words into your resume.i went on reddit and used the "sheets and giggles" resume format. the results were great, would recommend.
