I find I create what I fear (of looking stupid) whenever my boss sits with me while teaching me something new, as I get nervous and make all kinds of mistakes. Any tips on how to become more thick skinned at work? Like joining team sports, or putting myself in other environments that would help toughen me up and be more confident at work?
If it does, it's because of the way they teach it to me. I was being given an important job to do every day at the bank when I first walked in every day and the way I was taught made it very hard for me to learn it. I learn better in parts but she wanted to show me the entire process all at the same time! Too much information to deal with! Because of this, I had to keep going to her time and time again for months afterward to ask what to do in this situation, then that one, etc.. Had she shown me how to do just the first part until I got it, I would've not only understood it a lot faster but it would've also given me a HUGE leg up on the other two parts because they were nearly the same in all three cases and, I WOULD'VE been able to learn the other two in a heartbeat!! But, because of the differences between them, being shown all three at the same time got me all mixed up and made it much harder to learn it all!
In most cases, it tends to be a much easier task to teach me by showing me rather than telling me verbally. I've had people spend a fair amount of time trying to TELL me how to do stuff and I still don't get it but, as soon as they SHOW me how it's done, I not only get it immediately but become better at it a lot quicker.

And it all Depends on how Cool your boss is. My teammate he is not more than me, yet acts like “kiss the boss” and boss over teammates which freaks me out, When he constantly wants to watch me doing my work and it makes my fingers shiver when I put them on keyboard. He makes me feel so uncomfortable, uneasy. All I’d suggest is you endure it a little bit. Just show constant effort and one day it turns out. It’s not like you’re simply not doing anything. If they wants to make you feel bad for not being proficient at certain areas of your job then it’s misleading.
I think those (annoying, harassing, egoistic, inferiority) people exists everywhere. Unfortunately their happiness is in making someone less or bad.
In Peaky blinders Tommy Shelby says “ Big fucks small” .
I had met my reporting manager (way higher than my teammate) where he makes me feel safe for not knowing things, for making mistakes. So I work with him continuously which pisses my teammate off.
Yeah, that happens. Luckily, I am working alone most of the time.

When I was 16 I worked on a construction site for a while and the general contractor would show up once and a while the guy that pays all the salaries and I was brand-new and I was nervous and I was working real hard and fast and I dropped a big walking stepping stone on my thumb and it got kind of bloody a big walking, stepping stone, but I was okay but he would stand by his car watching me checking me out the new guy but they kept me on. They even gave me a raise. Good experience, but hard work getting up early in the morning working for nine and half hours with like a 30 minute lunch break no other breaks.
Get nervous only about those things that really have a chance of taking your life physically. Everything else is really cool. I mean, being alive is definitely a priority than any other things, right?
With this mindset in mind, you don't even get nervous in front of a group of grumpy old interviewers.😅✌️👍
sports could definitely help, yes...
that's what I actually did since my childhood, in order to overcome many challenges I had... shyness, insecurities, lack of confidence, being more assertive and proactive, more social, less anxious in public, frustrations, fixations and what not...
and it definitely helped me a whole lot... all of that is gone nowadaysI’m student teaching right now, and I tripped over words reading a story to my class after getting them to focus where they should be.
It's all stems back from when we were in school when we freeze up when somebody in authority asks us a question. They like to watch over our shoulders.
I DON'T work well with bosses who look over my shoulder or micro-manage!
I work the night shift so I don't see my boss at all. But if he was there, I probably would.
My brain is frozen. Can't you tell? I am on GAG daily!
It happens when just about anyone watches me doing anything. I hate it like. Stop no.
