I don't think it should be an absolutely necessary class, for example, in England politics would be taught about in Sociology but Sociology isn't a mandatory class. Having a Sociology class is fine, but it's better if it's optional. But I completely agree with you that the views and sides of the spectrum should not be presented as one is better than the other.

No. Its not the teachers duty to push political persuasions its immoral.
Not discussing politics in school would very much defeat the purpose of education.
If a teacher can discern opinion from facts, then fine.
