I’m being put on the spot in front of others who ask “Are you working?” or “So what do you do all day?” And I’m starting to get really pissed off. I left my job where I got no PTO for a year and it was in a very advanced field of finance. So basically a job none of them could even do!! Sorry if that’s mean but I’m not unproductive. I invest my money and am doing some self care to recharge before my next role. I can’t seem to understand why people feel like it’s their place to ask these things, especially in front of others. What can I say? I don’t owe them shit.

It's understandable to feel frustrated when people ask personal questions about your employment status, especially when it feels like they are putting you on the spot. Here are a few polite ways to respond to these types of questions:
1. "I'm taking some time off right now to recharge and focus on my personal goals."
2. "I'm exploring some new opportunities and taking the time to figure out what I really want to do next."
3. "I'm not currently working, but I'm using this time to invest in myself and pursue some personal passions."
Always remember and keep in mind that you don't owe anyone an explanation for your choices or decisions, and it's okay to set boundaries and politely decline to answer questions that feel too personal or intrusive. You can also try redirecting the conversation to a different topic by asking the other person about their own interests or experiences.
There aren't any so just tell them to f**k off but no PTO for a year in high finance is pretty much a fact of the job
Do you think they’re asking cuz they care? I mean I personally wouldn’t ask someone those questions. It’s just classless honestly. Maybe they’re jealous cuz they could never do that.
They ask because they're intrusive
Well I don't know what to do about it. I don’t know why they really care.
