What do you think is a better major?

For the longest time I’ve planned on doing something with psychology or social work. I currently have an AA in Psychology/Sociology and am transferring to a 4-year in the fall. I am debating amongst different majors and minors, because I am not quite sure what is the best match for me and what is the most realistic. I am not sure if I will finish at a bachelors or not; trying to take it one thing at a time. But here are my most current ideas for myself:

Major in psychology with a minor in social work: pros- would offer me flexibility down the road in what particular position or field I’m interested in. Much job growth and I am passionate about helping and appreciating others, can see myself doing something here Cons- may require a lot of education and experience when I’m not sure what I’m committed to yet, may involve burnout, I have anxiety/depression and struggles of my own, a “useless” degree

Major in health sciences/nutrition:

Pros- Job growth, would be helping others, doesn’t seem too stressful but I’m not sure, I like learning about health and nutrition casually in personal life, might be rewarding Cons- don’t know much about it, might require further education, might be more complicated than I think

Minor in English or creative writing: Pros- I have always had a passion for reading and writing, I ultimately want to publish creative writing someday so it would help me, have received positive feedback on my writing and being in courses related to it will push me to write and finish writing Cons- lots of money and time for something “useless” or impractical although I know I would enjoy minoring in it if given the opportunity

Maybe there’s something else out there for me altogether. Sad as it is, I am considered socially awkward despite my career desires to be working with people. I don’t intend to be a millionaire; however, more money would result in a less stressful life like I have been dealing with. I don’t even know if I should continue college at all.

My mom just retired as a social worker. She always said social work was a worthless degree until you become a supervisor and need a masters. Her degree wasn't in social work. It wasn't needed.

I know a lot of poor people with English degrees. If you don't need college loans, go for it. Get a degree in poetry if you can pay for it. Nutrition/health sciences may not pay great money but it is something you can always find work doing.

Well phycology has limited career path if you don't go all the way and get the doctorate degree. But social work requires a lot more of the down and dirty work.

I would prefer English or creative writing because it doesn't require social gatherings since you are socially awkward

Right, but what are you actually going to do with those degrees? Teach the same thing in junion high school? Society isn't exactly putting a premium on either field there.

right but going into 6 figures of debt because you like to creatively write... you can sit at home and write for free.

And no, every degree is definitely not important in life. When the asteroid comes and the select few are given slots on the spaceship to go seek out another planet, we'll have engineers and farmers and doctors and electricians, we won't have a lot of gender studies majors or philosophy of art history majors. That's why we pay them less. As a society we value them less.

Even though I hate big government, whichever one gives you a better shot at a government job. Those are some of the only places that still have good pensions and some have lifetime medical coverage.

Majoring in health science/nutrition means you want to work as a dietician or personal trainer. You should be pretty adamant about that goal otherwise it's learning a lot of information that won't carry over to other jobs so well.
