I always wanted to join the military, I made up my mind after 10 years reminiscing on it. I recently joined at a little bit of older age. I said older age because most joined when they just got out of HS. I have a BA, also continuing my education in a master program, I am US citizen, I met the age requirements, so I am qualified for the OTS program, but I didn’t enlisted in the officer program.
My friends and family are belittling my intelligence cause I didn’t join as an officer, talking about systematic discrimination as who they actual want as their officers etc, my recruiter has quotas, and I was bluffed about not enlisted in the OTS. Most of the people that are going to order me around has only an HS education, and much younger than me.
My recruiter stated it’s about being selected to an officer positions, and it’s usually hired from the inside not of civilian. However that’s not what is advertised, and what I learned from talking with other recruiters of other branches. What my recruiter said sounds more about promotions. And it makes sense to hire from inside promoted from one known with experience, but the OTS program trained one just for that. But recruiter repeat the officer positions if available will be selected for a position from inside with experience not just a random person. That’s doesn’t sounds accurate to me. With some gaslighting in there, like everyone has a degree this days lol. True to an extent but not when the majority of enlistee are right from HS.
Anyway, they all got me confused. Due to my qualifications of the OTS I am interested because I would like to be considered for OTS like everyone else, base on my Family and Friend opinion, but at the same time, I don’t really want to be one. I just fear the responsibility of being one.
What do you know? What can you make out of these information I shared here? Anyone care to share their opinion?

Every recruiter I spoke with told me the same thing mine told me. I’m gonna stand with my prior decisions and wait. I’m just gonna shut down everyone telling me what to do with my life. I’m not in a rush for no power positions, the more you show you’re capable of, the more responsibilities you get. I’m just gonna sit down and watch.
I am not listening to anyone else, the military isn’t my main career path, it part of it now.
Geesh…! I’m done being confuse! 🤷

You should have joined as a officer! I've heard it even doesn't matter what type of degree you even have you can be in any Mos and be a officer.
If you have education in something that is useful to the military, you should be going into officer training. I'm pretty sure that you can still be an officer with a degree in underwater basket weaving, though
I understand but to be an officer, doesn’t there need to be an actual needs for it from the base you are? Shouldn’t there be a ratio of officer and leaders relative to subordinates/soldier according to the troop needs?
Everyone in the troop can’t be all officers.
Have you signed any papers yet?
Yup! I have. But I have learned that if you were lied and misguided while signing. If you learned before you are ship, and the contract can be void before you get ship to BMT.
You need to go over recruiter's head and talk to somebody in charge
I am truly being misguided about this….!
I didn’t mention which branch of the military. However, is it the same for all branches, it might be different from one then another.
Uhhh…. You mean OCS?
You have to be going to college working towards a bachelor’s degree or have one
OTS , OCS , I guess it has many other titles. Yes, I have a BA, (not a requirement, but working on my master too)
You need a bachelors to become an officer.
I have a bachelor degree and currently working on my master degree. Just complete 2 semesters in my master program.
Good job
Tell what can get you get about my explanation above?
