What are some jobs that actually pay well?

I went into mechanical design engineering, and as a designer, you don’t really need a four year degree, but what pisses me off is all these companies ACT like you do, and either don’t hire you, or pay you significantly less.

In the beginning it’s not as much of a problem, but now that I’m several years into my career, and after all of this inflation in the economy, it’s really becoming a problem and it’s like I enjoy the work I do, but I don’t enjoy it THAT much to keep getting bent over by these companies.

What are some other jobs to consider that actually pay well that I could get into quickly? Just tired of getting treated like 2nd class when I know I’m better than this. Maybe I just need to find another job, but it’s difficult to want to do that when you look back on all the ways you’ve been mislead and d*cked around. It’s like I’m just sick of these people man. Club mentality. It’s the old boys club. Buy your way into a “better” life and you can have your seat at the table.

Here are some jobs that typically pay well without needing a 4-year degree:

- Trades like plumbing, electrical work, HVAC. Being a master tradesman can pay six figures as you gain experience.

- CDL truck driving. Driving jobs like local delivery routes, long-haul trucking, etc. Pays decently, especially if you become an owner-operator over time.

- Welding. Welding is a solid career path where skilled welders can make $50k+ to start depending on the industry. Underwater welding pays insane money.

- Coding bootcamp. You can learn things like web development in a 6-12 month program and start around $70k on average. High growth field too.

- Sales. Certain sales jobs like medical device sales, solar sales, etc. base pay is around $60k but total comp easily gets into 6 figures once you learn the role.

- HVAC/R technician. Working on commercial refrigeration and HVAC equipment has demand. Journeymen make $40-80k depending on employer/location.

- Radiologist assistant. 2-year program and assists imaging specialists like X-ray techs. Average pay is $60k.

Hope this gives you some ideas man. Definitely look to leverage any skills you have too while considering a career pivot. Fuck the old boys club bullshit - do you and the money will follow.

Academic degrees are a sham and the job market is a whole circus.

Employers won't hire you if they simply don't like you or anything about you. They make it look like they need personnel but won't hire when someone shows up for them.

I am in IT for almost 10 years now and I have a bachelors degree in computer science. I still sleep on a mattress on the floor.

I have discovered swing trading just 1 year ago (i am really pissed off, that i haven't found it sooner) and you know what? Brokers don't care about your gender, education, how you dress, look, speak, whatever. They'll take your money and give you the instruments to multiply it or lose it all. You can be an anarchistic iranian punk transgirl with tattoos and vibrantly colored hair, the brokers won't care.

You absolutely need a degree in mechanical engineering to do mechanical engineering work and 80% of those with degrees in mechanical engineering are still not qualified to do the job and will cost the boss losses rather than help the boss generate a profit. My dad was a mechanical engineering professor in China and even he struggles at his job when they test him on different types of engineering skills to renew his right to continue his job. His I. Q. is in the top 0.1% and he works 12 times faster than his colleagues at the engineering company but he struggles too.

You’re right but what I’m saying is that I’m in design, not a degreed engineer. I don’t want to be an engineer. But the CAD design and drafting stuff? That’s what I do, and there’s a good ceiling in the field too, but the more time seems to go on, the more they want you to have an engineering degree to do that too.

I did AutoCAD drafting by transposing penciled designs onto AutoCAD but my main job was supporting the other employees, I did frontline receptionist work, errand running, cleaning, and supervised CNC programming.

software engineer... you don't need a degree if you can prove you have experience...

Take that education into an apprenticeship program and become a mechanic; plumber, pipe fitter, welder, millwright, elevator tech, instrumentation technician, etc. They’ll probably allow you to test into a later year if you want, but you’ll be short-changing yourself valuable field experience and hours needed to get a license. After that though, the world is your oyster.
