You should try hard to get another job before you quit. I've heard many hiring managers say they don't like hiring people who don't have a current job. It leaves too many open questions.
On top of that, if you are unemployed, you potentially put yourself in the position to be desperate. You might take whatever is offered, even if it's not a good career move or the pay isn't up to par.
When you are currently working, you get to call the shots with a new job. Being able to take it or leave it puts you in much better position.Maybe you know all this, but I'm reinforcing it. Look for a new job if you want, but try to avoid a knee-jerk reaction by quitting when you don't have anything lined up. It can have long term repercussions on your career.

Man no offense, but you’re almost 40 and a girl you liked at work doesn’t like you like that. That should honestly be the last thing for you to be thinking about at work. I mean this in the nicest way possible, but it may be time for you to man up a little.
