2.5 paid vacation days, each month, is the law here. Anything less than that would probably terrorise most workers of my location, and I understand them lol.
There's a catch though, in how those 2.5 days per month progressively popped up in our history, they have been brought up by socialist govs... Now, dear US citizen will you sign the 📜 for 7 days of paid vacation? Be careful with what you wish for, you won't get this free week without voting, constantly, repeatedly, for the most dreaded...

Yes. That would be ideal.

Haha right. Would love that if we could.

People would be happy, but the economy would totter. Maybe three DAYs a month. But 5 would be impractical.
If you think about it, three days a month would equal what the French get every year. However, France is organized around having everything closed down in the month of August, so the whole country "leaves town," so to speak.
If France can do it, I expect any organized nation could do something similar.20 Reply

Better yet, cut the 5-day work week down to 4 and watch not only morale go up but productivity too

That's what I posted on one of my last questions. I think it definitely would too!
This was proven lol

Yep in a large 2022–2023 U. K. trial (over 60 companies), 92% of employers continued with the 4-day week after the trial. So it definitely should be done here in the U. S.

Indeed, frequent vacations could boost mental well-being and productivity, enhancing morale. I once worked with a company experimenting with flexible time-off policies. Happier, well-rested employees reported increased creativity and dedication. However, balancing operational needs can be challenging. Implementing shorter workweeks or remote work may achieve some benefits without the logistical hurdles a full week off entails. Balancing work commitments and personal time is key, promoting both well-being and efficiency while realistic in various sectors.

You're already getting at least 8 days a month!
If you total up how many hours you have to work 172 hours a month, on average. If those were periods of 240-hour days, you're only working just over 7 days a month, on average. Remove lunches and break periods, that's only about 6 days a month. So, you're only working about 2.5 months a year!!17 Reply- 9 d
At my job we only get 13.33 hours a month of pto no sick leave. That's only 19 days a year. Totally not enough at my job.
- 9 d
At my last job, I got 2 weeks a year.
- 9 d
Well we get a little over 2 weeks but it feels like it's not enough. The workload is a lot and can be stressful at times.
- 9 d
Maybe a change of venue?
- 9 d
I just started working there in January. It's rough sometimes but I like it. It's honestly the best job I've ever had.
- 9 d
Ask if you can work full time.
- 9 d
I do work full time. 8 hours 5 days a week.
- 9 d
I'm fine with my 5+ weeks of vacation I get yearly. But now I pretty much have 2 weeks off every month, where I only work 1 shift and 2 in the other. (If I don't take in extra)
14 Reply- 9 d
I could certainly use that instead of just 2.8 weeks of vacation a year which doesn't include sick leave.
Everyone in Denmark has the right for 5 weeks off during the year, sick leave since that is not vacation time, is not included.
- 8 d
Oh ok. That's still great though.
It is quite good yes.
3.1K opinions shared on Education & Career topic. I liked my old job but there really was not much time off. I was there for 3 years and never took a vacation. There were plenty of random days I took for doctors appointments, having contractors do work on my house or taking care of my wife and never had enough time for a vacation.
10 Reply- 9 d
Initially, morale might improve, but efficiency would go down the tubes, leading to having to do 4 weeks of work in 3 weeks, which would not be good for morale.
11 Reply- 8 d
That's so true.
In Australia, 4 weeks of rec leave is standard and often in addition you get the Christmas-New Year shut down, together with 13 public holidays. So that is what 45 odd days of leave. It seems to work out fine.
You are proposing 84 days of leave. I'm not sure many businesses could function that way.
10 Reply- 9 d
I don't know what the math is on that, but that's TOO MUCH! But I think we should have at minimum one month, to either take all at once or split up. And none of this, you have to work 20 years to get 5 months, NO! Everyone gets the same
But to answer your question, I think yes. People need a break from work.
10 Reply That's not reasonable. I know that when I took a week off for my vacation I dreaded going back because all of my work was sitting there just waiting for me to come back. Then I had so much to catch up with that I wish I had never taken time off.
10 ReplyWon't matter when most jobs in the future won't exist anyway. And I have no clue but my dad always ends up never using his time off so he has too much of it.

If you can't handle a full time job, work part-time
12 Reply- 9 d
If only I could. Have bills and debt.

You just answered your own question why it would not work. You can't expect your boss to pay same amount of money for working less. Other thing is there would be less goods on the store (because people can't product as much goods as before) - if there is less goods - then guess what, prices go higher. Also doctor will also work less - meaning less people get to see the doctor.
Elon Musk already talked about this during covid.

Wish we were one of those.
1.5K opinions shared on Education & Career topic. Nah, that would drive me crazy. I like having a break, but not a week each month. That would be total overkill.
20 ReplyI put "No it wouldn't." Because it's not a long term fix. You know what is? A living wage. It would be nice if that concept came back.

I don't believe in less work, but better working conditions over all10 ReplyMorale would increase but so would the itch to squeeze more out of ya with less working days, I think.

Morale would improve in jobs if people gave a shit about their jobs.

No, in today society, the more people receive the more they demand. Never enough.
10 Reply I think going to a 4 day work week would make more of an impact on improving workers morale.
10 ReplyIt would be very hard for me to go back to work after a vacation, so i wouldn’t want to go through this every month lol

Absolutely. I go every other month; but i could use more.

Maybe but the job would probably go under
13 Reply- 9 d
Possibly. Depends on the company and how many employees are working there. If everyone had a different week off it could work.

Yes but are we talking about payed vacation

Yes paid vacation
