The Struggle of Being a Metallica Fan

I'm gonna have some more metalheads hate me for this...

Wassup people of internet land, so as you see there has been a change in myTakes. I know that there was supposed to be one coming about top bassists of rock and metal, but I thought i'd come up with this for a dose of humor.

Ah yes, Metallica. The oddball of a band that has a weird reputation among headbangers. Some people think this band is metal, others think its alternative, few think its rock, haters think its shit. People who know me well obviously know that this band is one I am definitely into, I mean hell its a band I've heard since I was a baby! However, loving the band and being a metalhead at the same time brings weirdness among other headbangers. Being a metallica fan isn't always so easy, and here's the proof XD

1. "You like metallica? oh your a poser then." "Metallica? You stupid scenie"

You don't know how often I get this!! For some reason people tend to think that I'm just a poser or a scenie pretending to be a headbanger. To be honest I'm a thrasher. I highly doubt that a scenie decks out in denim/leather and patches and sneakers. Now I get that some people think that other metal stuff I do listen to is "fake" like Motorhead or Anthrax and all that, that black metal is true metal or something. I respect your belief but um, technically I'm still called a metalhead from what these bands have been labeled over many years.

2. "Lars is a jackass"

The Struggle of Being a Metallica Fan

Trust me. I know.

3. "All Kirk Hammett does is stand on his wah pedal in every solo. Dave Mustaine is better."

Both guys have different styles of playing. All humans do!

4. "Oh hell, you love metallica and play guitar, does this mean that you'll just use a wah pedal?"

I want to have a wah pedal someday but its not like i'll use it 100% of the time.

5. "Dave wrote all of Kill 'Em All!!"

Oh so you're telling me that he also wrote Cliff Burton's bass solo "Anesthesia"? Holy mother of God who knew! *sarcasm*

6. "They are a normie band. Sellouts. Money-snatchers"

I'd say if anyone in Metallica is money hungry it would be Lars lol. But being a big band doesn't mean they are so "normie". I've never held the belief that metalheads should love just only underground bands. You should love a band for their sound and musical passion instead of worrying about how popular they are.

7. "Kirk and Lars were gay for each other"

Just search "Klars" in google images. Any pic with them together is my response.. *tries not to laugh*

8. "Lars should have died in the 1986 tour bus accident, he was least talented"

Alright look, no one should have died that way. Talented or not. Unfortunately fate decided to take from this world the one fella that surely knew his four-stringer. After all, if it wasn't for Lars, there wouldn't even have been a thrash metal era of Metallica, or any era for that matter. James Hetfield would have stayed in one of his other bands (Leather Charm), Kirk probably would have still gotten hell for using a wah pedal heavily in Exodus, and Cliff would have been sick as hell of being in his other band Trauma as they got more commercial.

9. "Metallica turned to shit after the black album"/"metallica turned to shit after Justice for all"/metallica died with cliff burton"

Its for sure that metallica changed after 1986. In 1988 the Justice album was released and had more of a progressive feel to it (and you couldn't hear Jason Newsted's bass), and music kept changing from then-on. But hell even if you think that the thrash era was the only good era that's fine, just don't keep rubbing it my face like you're some know-how of metal! XD with me, the only album I'm not into is St. Anger. that one is shitty to me. The rest I do like, but the thrash era is my favorite. like my 2 favorite albums are kill em all and the black album (not thrash but still).

Honestly this band was always influenced by other things. During the Load era Kirk got heavily influenced by blues and jazz. In the Ride The Lightning era Cliff showed the 'tallica guys classical, classic rock n roll, etc.. which did shape how the album came to be, even if it wasn't so obvious.

10. "It was dumb of the band to kick out Mustaine!"

So, if he was in your band, and he started getting drunk all the time and wanting to fight, be late for band practice, try to do witchcraft on you, etc you would let him stay? Tbh he did seem awesome for the band but it sucked that he got the way he did.

11. "They aren't metal. why would you love that band if your a headbanger?"

They were thrash. DUH. But to me they aren't just metal. They have been that, but have been a lot more as well. And honestly when a metalhead is open to different sound it actually influences them well in their own metal music-making.

Well folks, these are just some of the things I get for being a fan of Metallica. I've had people try to get me to stop listening too. What do I say? "i'll just keep on listening to my normie metallica shit thank you very much." Ain't nobody going to tell me what I should or shouldn't headbang to XD To those that do hate the band, its fine that you do. I respect it, because we all have our own opinions. But it doesn't make you better when you try to prove that I'm a poser for liking a band like this XD You keep on hating, I'll keep on loving till the day I'm 6-feet under. :)
