Just watched Flanningan's Adaptation of Stephen King's Doctor Sleep, all I can say is for a sequel, is Wow.

Doctor Sleep is Stephen King's sequel to his 1977 Movie the Shining, famous for Jack Nicholson's insane axe welding attach on his Wife and younger son, in the Overlook Hotel.

Starring Ewan McGregor in Doctor Sleep.

Supposedly king was not happy about the recreated sets from the Shining, Flannigan has masterly rebuilt the rooms from the original hotel, and interestingly the movie actually features scenes from Kubrick's 1977 film. The only thing I didn't like was that they never did a CGI rendering of Jack Nicholson's Ghost, that would have put the icing on the cake for me so to speak.

I gather King did not like this because, it was almost like Kubrick and Nicholson stole some of his thunder in the original adaptation, because his here's Johnny scene is considered one of the most memorable scenes in cinematic history, so memorable that future generations might not even acknowledge Stephen King for writing the novel's in the first place.

I saw the shining as a kid and yeah Jack Nicholson played that part so well, I don't think just the movie scared me, think he did... For years that's all I saw when saw Jack Nicholson in anything, that scary, crazy character from the shining...

Yeah cool, it's very different, but I liked this story, they tie in music, lighting, and obviously the footage from the original movie, that is very odd for a sequel. Check it out.

Supernatural thriller. The movie the Shining was about a hotel care taker, his wife and young son, take up residence in the Hotel Overlook, for the winter. Jack Nicholson plays Jack Torrance, he is contracted to manage the hotel throughout the winter, it was Directed by Stanley Kubrick, so it's always had a cult following and considered a classic horror film. Doctor Sleep is about Danny Torrance, jacks adult son, set way into the future, it is also based on a Novel written by Stephen King. If you liked the original film, it's definitely worth watching the sequel. And if you have not seen either, you have a horror movie marathon ahead of you. Just remember Kubrick is an Art house director, so it's not like typical horror films, it's very artistic.

It's not a jump out of your pants scarry movie, but it has creepy moments, and the performances are incredible. It is about a haunted hotel. So you might find it frightening.

Ok it's important to watch the Shining first, some of the Original footage from the Shining is in Doctor Sleep, one way to watch scarry movies is to mute the sound in the really scarry parts. That way it's less terrifying. They are both really good stories, but you really have to watch the Shining first, to understand the Characters and the ideas the stories tell, because they are both very different movies.

Yeah I liked this movie too. It was great in just about every way EXCEPT as you said - the haunting lack of even a voice over from Jack Nicholson. I thought his portrayal was almost bad enough to ruin the whole movie but the scene was relatively quick and painless. It had to be done. Sort of like ripping off a band-aid.
I knew Stephen King didn't like the Stan Kubrick version of the shining but I think Flannigan made the right choice to make the movie a sequel to that rather than to the actual book (and rather than being too true to the doctor sleep book) because let's face it that more people know the movie than the book.

Yeah Kubrick is a genus. It's probably the best Stephen King film of them all. Pet Sematary was ok too.

The Shining was a 1980 film. 1977 is when the book was published.
And did you watch Doctor Sleep Director's Cut? It is 24 minutes longer.
