I'm Glad My Mom Died by Jennette McCurdy

Smashingdoozy

I watched i-Carly as a kid, I would say it was one of the only shows I watched growing up. My young brain had no clue the pain I was witnessing just beyond the eyes of the character Sam Puckett.

I'm Glad My Mom Died is a gut churning memoir. I felt physically sick reading about how Jennette's mother treated her and the domino effect it had on her life. Her mother taught her at the age of 11 how to calorie restrict, sending her into anorexia, then eventually binging and purging. She forced her into acting at the age of 6, as well as music and dance. She wiped her butt beyond the age of 8 despite Jennette being perfectly capable. She showered her at 11 years old with her brother who was 16 at the time, when her brother wasn't there her mom would perform breast and vaginal exams on her. These exams went on until she was 17 years old. She made everyone watch her "goodbye video" that she recorded when she was first diagnosed with cancer w e e k l y so her family would be greatful she was still around. Not to mention the horrific verbal abuse she dished out and terrible living environment they had to live in due to her hoarding.

I applaud Jennette for telling her story, detailing the harsh reality that is recovery from an eating disorder alcohol abuse and manipulation from a loved one.

I applaud her for speaking up about the child acting industry.

I applaud her for not taking the $300,000 hush money to keep quiet about "The Creator" Dan Schneider.

I'm Glad My Mom Died is a fantastic read and I hope Jennette's story continues with all the love and happiness she truly deserves after this hell of a begining.
