An observation in the different fanbases of fictional franchises

This isn’t a criticism on any fanbase necessarily, just a funny observation of patterns. I fit well into a few of these, so don’t feel attacked. Also, if you have other observations of other fanbases, add them!

Pretty interesting how different the many fanbases are. The Star Wars one allows you to like about 4 of their properties at a time and hate the other ones, otherwise you’re a fanboy. And fans of each trilogy has bad things to say about fans of the other trilogies. Posts containing criticism gain a lot of traction.

LOTR wants less material available. Only things penned by Tolkien, anything else is heresy. The borderline worship of someone who is a a fantasy writer is shocking. The level of intelligence is measured by how little you want to see film adaptations and how much you like Tom Bombadill. Posts about criticism of anything Tolkien wrote are downvoted into hell, posts with praise for LOTR material outside of Tolkien himself as a source are met with vitriol.

HP fans see absolutely no wrong in anything within the 7 books, and any criticism of characters or events is meant with eye rolls and clinging to nostalgia. but at the same time, it’s popular to hate Rowling due to her politics. Posts containing criticism gain no traction.

Brandon Sanderson fans often follow the pattern of “I love Sanderson, but…”. Posts with criticism do fairly well, but usually end with praise for the author after acknowledgement of his flaws.

Marvel fans are just now growing tired of storytelling made up of mostly colors and jokes, after demanding more of it for ten years. As the properties continue without real stakes or content, Disney as a company simply label criticism as sexism or racism and Marvel fans now feel trapped as many of their favorite serious beats are morphed into comic relief. For the first time in a decade, posts containing criticisms aren’t met so quickly with the “you’re thinking about it too hard, get a life it’s just a movie” comment and people are now agreeing that we deserve better
