who repeatedly trashed the video game adaptation by CDPR in the past (even though the games were quite successful and made his character so widely recognized that he's now demanding more than $16M instead of the lump sum he agreed to in the beginning)

I have nothing against Cavill or good looking Geralt (who probably just has a staggeringly low self esteem in the books) but I think Cavill looks kinda awful as Geralt.
Henry Cavill could look so good in similar setting. But they have to make him look ridiculous as Geralt of Rivia

so they completely fucked the main casts. BUT Cahir, Eist and Renfri and the minor female characters are quite nice (especially Renfri)
