I haven't read a fictional book for sheer pleasure since I was in university almost 20 years ago. I do have to constantly read technical nonfiction as part of my job to keep up with the latest techniques in my field, but it's work.
Actually, I think my exposure to a wide range of literature in university courses ruined some of the enjoyment of reading books for pleasure. I struggled a lot especially with books written centuries ago where I would have to spend hours studying the culture and linguistic tendencies of writers during the times in which they lived to properly understand their figures of speech.
When I was a preteen, it was so nerdy in hindsight but I loved reading these Dragonlance books based on Dungeons and Dragons. They featured a vividly descriptive writing style that was still simple enough for me to follow as a preteen learning English as a second language. I picked out the first Dragonlance book at an airport book store which my father bought for me to keep me preoccupied during a very long airplane trip. I ended up reading it cover-to-cover along with the rest of the books (there was an entire series). That was the first and last time I not only read fictional books for pleasure but became thoroughly addicted to them to the point where I couldn't put them down.
I'd be interested in getting back into reading fiction although I've found that I have become extremely picky about an author's writing style and not just the story that they're trying to tell.
I try to always find time to read for enjoyment
I'm always in the middle of reading a book. Right now it's The Killing Snows by Charles Egan.
The last one was The Globalization of Poverty and the New World Order by Michel Chossudovsky
I started reading at an early age, too. I wrote and illustrated a dinosaur book when I was 6 and took it to school. My teacher had me give presentations to the other first grade classes.
When my mom died 1996, an employee at her memorial handed me a package. My teacher from 6th grade had read the obituary in the paper and dropped off that book I had written 36 years earlier. I almost died when I opened it. All the words are spelled phonetically and you can imagine the illustrations. She must have been impressed, though, to have saved it all those years. I'm glad to have it as a keepsake.
I wrote my first book at age 9
Lol I still have it. It was kind of dark lol
Agreed. Love reading and rereading a good series. Have done so recently myself. I read whenever possible. Always have the latest in a series in my bag. The best therapy next to riding for me. I went six years without reading and wondered why I wasn’t able to cope as well as I had used to. Then realized just how beneficial it is to escape your reality and jump into someone else’s, giving your mind a rest a few min each day. Definitely healing!!
This is exactly it. Reading and writing arw such huge parts of my life and when I don't engage in them, I find it harder to deal with things.
the Wheel of Time series. Its a fantasy series that's 14 books long
Also, "The Sun Also Rises" by Hemmingway, because its a simple story of people living their lives. There isn't some massive plot going on, but the way he holds up the day to day things these people are doing in a grandiose way makes up for it. Helped me to start thinking about and appreciate the little things going on in my life too
I mean these were the last books I got lost in recently
That's awesome.

Last time was probably when I read the Raymon Feist fantasy pocketbook-series 'Riftwar saga' starting with the first book 'Magician' and going on for like 16 books or so. That was back in 2013-2016. Im a slow-reader but I still managed to get lost in the story. I read in small sessions during the day while waiting for the buss or just killing time. Longer when going to bed.
After that I read some smalled works into sci-fi and stuff.
Was a long time since I read something now though. It's a habit I need to nourish to keep having.
Last time I got completely lost in a book was back in late highschool, where I spent the whole summer by my own accord reading The City of Ember series.
I really got interested in it's story and still think it's one of my favorite books out there.
Awesome
I love reading. I love the smell of a book, the feeling of the pages between my fingers. It's amazing. I often get lost in the books I read. It was last night. I'm currently reading "The Vanishing Stair" by Maureen Johnson. Love it! It's a good read. I'm planning to buy Twilight, but most people tell me that its too cringey.
Just realized that my answer is a bit cringey but eh
Lol your answer was great. Twilight series was kind of cringey, but also amazing!
I used to love reading. As I've got older I find it harder to concentrate. My concentration has become shorter and aged 40 I was diagnosed with ADD - nobody's ever accused me of being hyperactive 😂
I use Audible now as I can listen more easily than read. It's helpful for me.
That's good!
I read books that had God on the back growing up. I still do. But now I love stories that make love desirable. I love love stories. I also love books that make finances possesable. I went for a post bachelor one year mandatory youth service and almost read all the novels in the library. I'd take six books home for the weekend and it was fun.
That sounds awesome. You asked about the series I was reading and it's a love series lol.
No problem
Ugh, I just tried to remember my last 10 years :) I really enjoyed Hatter's Castle, a novel by A. J. Cronin. It's bleak, it's gripping, it's scary. That's how I would describe the novel. I even gave this book as a gift to my mentor for the new year! She was thrilled.
Definitely gonna check it out
tbh I think the only time was once or twice when I was in the first or second grade reading some goosebumps or whatever it was called. I think that was the name of the series.
I was so obsessed with Goosebumps
Lol yup
It's been years from the last time I was hooked and I wanna get back into reading paperbacks (hard cover books) after I graduate. Last time I remember I think it was high school and I was reading an Alex rider book and I was literally on the edge of my seat
Not lately. Lately I've been hooked on these Sudoku puzzles... @Cherry234
Oh man. I went through a sudoku phase before lol
Not only is it satisfying, and enjoyable, it also gives you a sense of accomplishment. Good for you young lady.
It does! Thank you
When I started reading 13 reasons why by accident lol so whenever that book came out I don't know. That was the very last time. Sad.
I wanted to read that sense I watched the show but never added it to my list and forgot..
Added it to my wishlist
I read all the time.
I am immersed in a book called "The Dreamers" by Karen Thompson Walker.
What are some of your favorite books?
Oh man. I have tons lol. The series I was re-reading is one of my favorites tho. I'm also a Potterhead
I am now 71.. I used to sit and read a novel in one sitting.. cover to cover. I Loved reading, but... after my seizure, I cannot remember things... so I have missed my books for a while... and I will forget that I answered this question... life is a "stream of consciousness" now and it sucks
Last night...
it seems like we share a trait @ShaTTeredMasterpeace #bookworm
Sweet!
Last time I got lost in a book it was a whole series, the Death Note manga. I bought 5 of the 6 volumes of the Black Edition and still don't have the 6th, intending to get it with part of my financial aid refund
6 years ago, read The Lion Boy trilogy. Beast fictional read of my life.
Sounds interesting
It really is. And I mean *best instead of beast 😅
It's been a while, I used to read a lot but now listen to audiobooks. When I do read, I generally consume a novel in one sitting.
I love a real page turner
College. The last time I was forced to read one. Outside of the bible, i haven't read a book since 2017. All my booksmarts have gone down the drain
Every day. I literally read 10 to 20 books in a month. I love kindle unlimited.
Hell yes!
Approximately 2 years ago , I loved to read and write my own books but now I don't feel up to it anymore 😕
Same. Writer's block has been a bitch
@ShaTTeredMasterpeace right
