Because we like our privacy. And being able to go out for a burger without being hounded by fans, or screamed at by detractors, or having some lunatic take a shot at us.
There was once a video game called Betrayal at Krondor, based off of the books of Raymond Feist. It was excellent in pretty much all regards, but when the time came to make a sequel, the company didn't have the rights anymore. So they made up another world for Betrayal in Antara, a game that didn't have quite the same punch, but was still good despite being overshadowed by its predecessor. One of the little touches that brought its world to life were the songs sung in taverns, done (presumably) by the already-present voice actors and general studio staff; they sound rough and unpolished, like actual tavern songs would. One of them addresses this very point:
I've never been a hero,
I've never been a mage.
I've never changed the minds of men
As I am not a sage.
I've never been to foreign docks
But I bet they're all the same!
And in all the tales the joymen tell
You'll never hear my name.
I've never been in battle
I've never been to sea
I've never saved a prince's life
None owes a debt to me.
I haven't sacked a city
Or set a town to flame.
So in all the tales the joymen tell
You'll never hear my name.
If fame comes round to find me,
Please friends, now don't you tell her.
If glory comes a-callin',
Just hide me in the cellar.
For I'll never lie with glory
And I'll never look for fame,
And in all the tales the joymen tell
You'll never hear my name.
Of all the men they sing of,
I'm the only one who's free.
My cup contains no poison;
No assassin waits for me.
I'm not one to remember,
But I'm also not to blame!
And in all the tales the joymen tell
You'll never hear my name.

I was about to argue and disagree and talk about privacy - But who the fuck am I kidding - I definitely 100% would love to be famous - Although I sometimes worry because I genuinely like to either be extremely anonymous or extremely well known so it's hard to pick which to pursue especially when the second could very well easily fail while the first is lost once you try to pursue the second
I prefer a simple life.
I don't want to have to constantly interact with people, whether that's going on talk shows, meeting fans or posting on Social Media.
I value deep connections and personal relationships and close intimacy.
I don't want to be in the spotlight and be always observed. I don't want a lot of money or stuff. I don't care about clothes and things that famous people get for free.
I hate advertisements of any kind and filters. Being famous sounds exhausting and fake to me. I want none of it.
I don’t mean to contradict you but some people may not want to be famous because one reason you would have friends is because they just want to be friends with you because you’re a celebrity. And you wouldn’t know who your real friends are and to be quite honest people wanna be friends with you because they just want to be able to say oh I know a celebrity!

Because when you're famous, you no longer have privacy. You're no longer treated like a human being. You become a product. You have no true relationships and can no longer trust anyone. You are completely alone.
Then, there are many people like myself who simply have no interest in material possessions. The only reason I want money at all is to not have to work one day. Outside of that, I really could not care less. Money is a means to an end, not the end itself.Because if you become too political in your beliefs. You’ll lose fans and business partners. If you wear sweatpants for one ☝🏻 day, you are considered unattractive. If you post a selfie, trolls will twist things and create a fake story on headline news.
I think when you're famous, like super famous it can get difficult because these entertainment reporting and talk show people watch every word you say, and analyse every relationship you're in.
You kinda nd of have to be perfect or they're gonna bash you in the media and potentially ruin your public perception, and possibly end your career.
I could take the being rich part, but maybe without the fame and excessive attention.Being under a lens all the time is immensely stressful. You're always observed and every aspect of your life is nitpicked. Horrible way to live for an introvert like me.
For example, I'm a big fan of BTS. Due to their popularity, they cannot mention brands while talking, even accidentally as it may count as free advertising, they can only use products of brands that sponsor them.
it sounds like hell to be famous, why? because your every sentence is analyzed by these tablecloths from the tabloids or the traditional press, and the People's Court is triggered against you. you no longer have a private life, and many stars end up drugged, alcoholic, because of the pressure of this profession.
Let's be honest, the only thing that attracts me to the stars is money, the rest is not. being a rich anonymous will be more than enough for meMakes no sense to me. You lose all your privacy and your life is under public scrutiny. Everyone thinks they have the right to tell you how to do things and judge every little thing you do, and you get chased all the time by reporters or journalists, can't even fart without it getting into the tabloids. I'm the opposite from you, I can't see the highlights of being a famous person.
People like privacy
Imagine being late for work in the morning,
& 5 Camera guys won’t let you leave.
Plus they’re shouting/ Snapping pictures when your kids are trying to Sleep..
Now you have to decide if leaving the house is a good idea with all of these men outside..
or
Imagine trying to fix things in your relationship
& Some random guy runs up with a camera & Asks how you feel about the guys your girlfriend sucked up while you were separatedI wouldn't mind being famous, but there are a lot of drawbacks than benefits when it comes to being famous.
I'm mostly a reserved person who likes his privacy, so I don't like the idea of being watched and called out (even though I'm quick to get used to certain things).I wouldn't because I likeprivacy... they don't have any privacy and can't even go to a restaurant and can't go for a walk or a date at the park without people asking them for selfies and whatnot.
They also have some creepy stalkers sometimes.Loss of privacy, people always hounding you for autographs and pictures, paparazzi following you around sneaking pictures of you... always having stupid gossip crap written about you.
Give me wealth without the fame... and I'm good.Being famous for me would raise my anxiety to new heights. The media scrutinise your every move and people fake date you for the fame. Must be absolutely awful.
Annoying people at your door and following you around. Scammers, hackers, your constantly being watch and you can't have any fun nor be yourself. Than theirs the fact you can't voice your opinion your everyone is either gonna like it or get mad
Nope. You just sound like a shallow gold digger narcissist.
Famous people lose their privacy, and privacy is important.
You lose all your privacy. People never leave you alone. So you would suck cock to be famous? Sleep with anyone? Do anything?
I like being anonymous. Even if I became a writer like I want, I'm sure I'd do it under a ghost name.
I agree with you I guess for some people it’s stressful attention
Some people don't want (and/or can't deal) with the attention. Fans, stalkers, media attention, lack of privacy etc. Comes at a cost for some.
You will never be famous if your posting anon all the time. LMAO
I honestly want to be famous but having fame honestly come with a huge drawback.
