I think that some people live in that world, or see that world often, so they listen to a familiar story. Some people glorify it, like when people glorify some of the horrible and disgusting things that Donald Trump has said.
Generalizing an entire genre of music into rape/murder/crime is not accurate, but I do think that there is a huge amount of rap music, even famous songs, that are about very evil things. And I agree with you, it is disgusting to proliferate such reckless hatred, and I do not understand how so many people can enjoy it. I sometimes hear the rapper speaking down to the listener of the song, often times for not being as aggressive or wealthy as the rapper. I do not understand why people would subject themselves to that, but that kind of interaction with fans, the costumes (the clothing and jewelry), and the act most of them put on reminds me of the WWE.
As for the Democrats interacting with rappers, the Dems are just trying to be inclusive to cultures beyond their own. I'm fine with that, as long as the rappers are not controlling the elected officials. The Republican party has its share of disgusting associations as well, but it does not bother me at this point, as both parties seem to be focused upon their own pockets.
