These films often receive negative responses from the general public and do poorly at the box office. Yet, Hollywood still continues to churn out these films. Why do you think the studio executives think that it is a good idea to make women the star of film franchises, whose main audience are men?

It worked fine for Ellen Ripley and Sarah Connor. The problem isn't "female protagonists", it's "female protagonists who suck, and who you're expected to root for because they're female". THAT is where the trouble arises.

Incidentally, in that last picture, which one is supposed to be Chun-Li? With the possible exception of the one in the mask (who I'm guessing is supposed to be Vega), they all look less Chinese than I do.

Hollywood is a VERY liberal industry who's whole shtick lately is to empower women because men have been the heroes of movies and television for too long in their eyes. They feel that men are getting a false sense of importance (A big head) from watching movies. Now rather than making movies that are more realistic, they decided to swap the roles and give women a big head now.

They are working to destroy all of your cultural icons, history, institutions, etc. and shift what is acceptable culturally. It's a common communist tactic. They did it in Weimar Republic in the 1920s before the rise of Nazi Germany. They also did it during Mao Zedong's Cultural Revolution as well as many other communist attacks on nations. Hollywood are attacking American culture. They hate your country.

The problem is endemic to the "Hollywood" entertainment industry. Several decades ago, those in power with social views contra the prevailing societal norm realized they could systematically affect a change in values through subliminal messaging through characters, lines and subtleties. Over time it became quite overt and now it has taken on a full frontal assault of societal values, mores and culture. The better questions (i. e. more apropos than greed) are why is this systematic assault seeking to undermine society taking place and who benefits?

The problem is ''capitalism'': when there are too many 'producers' who greedily think of profits and 'strategies' - but ignoring that they produce 'cultural' goods... then the market is being flooded with shitty products that lack quality - a hesitant customer reaction is predictable.
Further: The 'decision makers' are of the generations that largely had been spoilt by abundance, and by superficiality.
