Do smurfs live in an utopian, communist society?

- The economy of Smurfs Village is based on autarky which means extreme self-sufficience. Smurfs do not trade nor import any goods. They use all their resources for their own needs.

- Smurfs do not have any currency. Because of that all of them are equal. There are no poor or rich. In one episode Chef tries to sell the food he cooks for money, but it fails, because other smurfs rebel against it (which means smurfs are so used to egalitarian society that any capitalist efforts are not gonna work for them).

- Smurfs work cooperatively with all other smurfs working for the good of the society. For example: Chef cooks for all smurfs in the village, and every individual gets his part of goods, according to his needs.

- Smurfs society is based on glass ceiling, where some smurfs (like Handy, Chef or Hefty) do clearly more work than others (like Grouchy or Vanity), yet the fact they work more doesn't benefit them in any way. They cannot monetize their work nor talents, even though they deserve it.

- Even though every smurf has some trait that makes him different from others, all smurfs dress the same (except for Smurfette, who wears a dress and heels instead of pants, and Papa Smurf, who wears the same clothes as others, except in different colour)

- In Smurfs Village there is a cult of a group. All smurfs have to work together, otherwise they are very weak and stand no chance against Gargamel. All efforts to promote individualism are not allowed.

- Even though in theory all smurfs are equal, in practise all the power is in the hands of Papa Smurf. He is an authoritarian leader of the village and he is the one who sets up all the rules and laws, and he is the omnipotent judge in trials

- Other smurfs accept Papa Smurf's dominance. His unlimited power is built on his people's legitimization

- Papa Smurf, the leader of the village, wears red clothes.
