do you understand what "acting" is? acting means you're pretending to be something and/or someone else. it's not "acting" if the "actor" is just being themself.
it's like you don't hire an actual serial killer to play a serial killer in a thriller. so why would you get an actual transgender to play a transgender?
not implying transgenders are somehow "criminal". just saying that hiring someone who "is" the role they're supposed to "play", that's not acting anymore. it's just being who you are. that would be a documentary then, not a movie.
For the same reason the lead actor of the Godzilla movie wasn't an actual 400-foot radioactive dinosaur: ACTING. It lets you portray people who have attributes that you don't.
Because it's not real. It's a movie, and she's an actress. The role goes to the BEST actor/actress, not to the trans person because it HAS to be a trans person.
Also I'd like to point out that before modern times, the vast majority of actors were males and they played both male and female roles.

Anybody can be the lead, as long as they look a lot like the character. Hairspray stars a man playing the protagonist’s mum. Nobody got pissed at it as far as I know. Dr Zhivago is played by an Egyptian (is he?), not a Russian. In the Russian film Morozko, the Baba Yagá (an evil cannibal witch) is played by a man. If the actor is good enough of acting, they can play it.
Maybe because instead of just putting the message out there the director and the producers also wants to make some money. She is recognisable, so people might go see the movie. And also it is acting so why don't we take it professionally and positively.
I mean, we've got dozens of medieval or fantasy European based TV series and films with random black actors cast in the main role, so what's your point? Once you sacrificed historical accuracy on the altar of equity, the floods gates were open for anyone to play anything because reasons. You can't complain now.
A movie is an art. It does not matter if the lead actor is actually a transgender or not. What matters is whether she is able to do justice or not to the role given to her.
She is portraying a character, not herself.
That's what acting is... you don't get the real killer to play act as the killer in a film.
For the movie to be a success it needs an actor with great acting skills and prior fame. Know any transgender meeting the requirements? It's the same things for sports biopics too...
