It's been a bad week for iconic musical pioneers. Jeff Beck and David Crosby have left the building. What are your thoughts?

Eric Clapton, Jeff Beck and Jimmy Page all got their starts with the Yardbirds. Beck was one of the guitar gods that came out of the mid-60s. He gradually developed a style so unique that nobody can copy him. He is consistently voted one of the best guitarists in rock history.

The first clip in the following article is David Crosby with the Byrds. He's the baby faced kid in the black sarape. He doesn't even have his signature mustache.

I still wanted to reply to your post though.
As you probably know, I went to many concerts at the Filmore West in San Francisco, during my teenage years. So many good memories of that place!!
I saw B. B. King, Santana, Sha Nah Nah there - remember them? According to my diary I kept and still have, I saw the Byrd's - just so many I can't list them all.
Then there were the free outdoor concerts in Golden Gate Park in San Francisco. I saw Jefferson Airplane there. Those concerts outside were great cause we would be up in the tree's watching them.
Of course I had my vinyl LP of Crosby, stills Nash and young. Music I grew up with and grew to love ❤️

I saw Jeff Beck open for B. B. King at the Santa Barbara Bowl. He was so good.

Wow! I've seen BB a few times. He opened for Clapton at one concert and the two of them jammed afterward.
The only time I ever saw Jeff live was with Beck Bogert Appice in Long Beach. That was quite a concert.

Wait, BB opened for Clapton? Not the other way around?

I guess Clapton was a bigger draw.
On one song, one would play and riff and the other would act like he was blown away. They he would meet the challenge with a riff. They went back and forth. It was great.

I also saw Santana open for Clapton and the the two bands joined forces at the end to kick ass.

There were lots of doubled or triple billed concerts back them with amazing bands. And the tickets were cheap!

I saw Black Sabbath open for Grand Funk Railroad. I later saw Yes open for Black Sabbath.
One concert opened with Heart. Then came Lynyrd Skynyrd. And the final band was Jefferson Starship with the original Airplane members joining in.

I could go on and on. LOL I went to lots of concerts in the 70s.

I would have liked to see Stevie Ray Vaughan. I did see his brother play as a guest to a local favorite who happens to be buddies with him.

I saw Stevie Ray once. I can't remember the name of the place in L. A.

That doughs like a treat! Jimmie was good too, and he played with our local guy in a restaurant. It was loud and BIG fun! Still... Stevie 😞

It has been a terrible loss to see both artists pass. Jeff Beck was still performing splendidly and even innovating with younger musicians shortly before his death!

Although to be honest I find that David Crosby peaked with The Byrds, just as some young people "peak" in high school and are never quite as great as oldsters. (Although for Steven Stills and Graham Nash, teaming up with David Crosby was a dramatic improvement to their careers, so there is that).

I agree with you 100%. But David did contribute a lot to the catalogue of immortal music. He wrote some great songs and his harmony vocals were wonderful.
