When’s the last time you listened to a physical CD?

One of my regulars at work was telling me about how he loves making music. And the kind of music he makes is the kind I’ve been listening to a lot lately. So I asked him if his music was on YouTube or anything. He told me he’s kinda old fashioned so he doesn’t really use social media like that.

but he came in and brought me a physical CD with his music on it. 😭 I thought that was really nice of him.
I had to dig through my stuff and find my old DVD player to play it lol. But I’m listening to it now and it’s really good.

When’s the last time you listened to a physical CD?

I listened to a CD earlier this afternoon, and I'm just about to pop another one in shortly. I have a dedicated CD player and I listen to CDs all the time. I enjoy CDs and I'll never get rid of my physical copies - CDs or records. It's one reason why I'm not really into digital, because I suffered a data loss about 5 years ago and I lost about 95% of the digital music I had at the time. Stuff that was super rare and obscure that you can no longer find anywhere. I'm not into newer music anyway, so CDs and records are just fine by me.

Plus, another thing I love about CDs and records is physically holding an album in my hands and admiring the artwork, and flipping through the the liner notes while listening to an album; remembering where I bought them and how excited I was to find a copy of something really cool, and to bring it home to play it for the first time. All of those things become fond memories. Even the physical action of physically changing a disc or flipping a record and cleaning it before it's played. I enjoy the "ceremony" and tactility of all of those things. Those are all things you just don't get with digital.

Another thing I like about physical copies is that it causes you to consider listening to the entire album, as the artist intended. Unlike digital where you oftentimes just download certain songs and forget about the rest.

I just find physical copies to be more rewarding. There's a reason why more and more younger people (than me) in their teens and 20s are listening to records and CDs (yes, even CDs are starting to make a slow comeback). It's because of many of the things I mentioned that digital just can't replace or replicate. Both have their place, but I prefer physical formats.

I have bunches of them and what's nice about them is you can relisten to them w just a mechanical device. You don't need a streaming service. Same as with DVDs. You actually own the film and can rewatch it instead of having to have a subscription service to netflix or some other service And if the streaming service decides NOT to carry your music or album, you can buy the streamed content, but have to store it in the cloud or on your device and pay more and more for more storage!!! argggh... This is not an improvement.

CD in good CD player has better quality than YT and streaming services which don't offer compression less audio formats.
I hear sometimes CD media especially if I want to hear a song loudly. YT songs sound often bad on good quality audio equipment or even headphones when turned a little bit louder. Jitter errors, compression artifacts... etc.

Nice, I make some music on the side just for kicks. Good relief method and emotion naviator. Never thought of even putting it on a cd now days but thats neat thinking. But waaay back in JH I played and downloaded some cds to my xbox 360. I jammed quite often

Last summer.
I met a band at a festival, we hung out, made friends and then they gave me one of their album CDs. It's ok but it was much better live, though, I much rather hang out more than having ever heard them. Great people.

I still use CDs all the time. Always adding to the collection. There's still a ton that I want. I could easily drop 1,000$ at a record store.

Around 7 years ago I think. Our 2 CD players still work and we still have the CDs but I outgrew the music on the CD and don't listen to it now.

Like 2 months ago. Borrowed some linkin park CD’s from my brother in law so that I had music to listen to on a roadtrip rather than being stuck with staticky radio.

two months ago I have a Studebaker Boom Bx. CDs, Cassette tape, AM/FM stereo radio. I can record all the media on Cassettes. Sounds Pretty Good but then again I am losing my hearing.

My boyfriend's last car had a CD player that we used. Apparently they stopped putting those in new cars though. So about 4 years.

I think it was back when DVDs were a new thing. Back then I had a CD drive and CDs, but I couldn't play any DVDs. Then I bought a new PC with a DVD player but then DVD was out of market 🤣 flash drives became the new hot storage device
