It seems like it has been around forever. I remember the Chevy Chase, Dan Aykroyd, John Belushi days. Later we had Eddie Murphy, Adam Sandler and Chris Farley.
It has not been funny since then.

I was 20 when it first aired. My friends and I were the right age to find it hysterically funny. We would gather together to watch it.
The original cast members were super talents. Dan Aykroyd, John Belushi, Chevy Chase and Gilda Radner became iconic. Jane Curtin, Laraine Newman and Garrett Morris were great, too.
Steve Martin joined the cast in 1976. OMG!
I remember when Eddie Murphy joined, too, but I didn't realize that it wasn't until 1980.
I still remember a lot of the skits.
@exitseven. I hear you. There are a lot of things that I'm sure I wouldn't find nearly as funny as I did back then.
I ❤️❤️❤️❤️ mr bill too! Thought it was riotously funny but now it's like WTF?
@DrPepper12 There was an episode when Kate Jackson was the guest host and thy had a skit with Mr Bill. I laughed so herd tht I almost peed my pants.
I'll just say this
"Saturday Night Live" has truly become an iconic part of entertainment history, showcasing incredible talent across the decades. While the humor and cast dynamics evolve with each era, it continues to influence modern comedy. Newer generations of comedians bring fresh perspectives, and humor is subjective. I think it's fascinating to see how SNL adapts, though there will always be a special nostalgia for the legendary classic moments! 🎭

I agree, with the caveat that Norm McDonald had some good contributions as well.
I think it’s time to end the series lol.
Like you said, really only the older episodes were funny. They still have funny sketches every once in a while but most of them are awful now
Impressive run. Has had its ups and downs depending on who the talent of the moment was, on screen and in the writing room. It was excellent when I was a teenager in the 90s. Norm MacDonald was always my favorite, before it was cool, and a lot of people didn’t “get” him. R. I. P…..

I really haven’t watched since I left for college many years ago. I definitely had better things to do on a Saturday night than watch TV for about a 15 year run, haha. Then I just never got back into it.
I hear about occasionally noteworthy skits or opening monologue, and these days you can find them elsewhere, after the fact.
Couple great ones with local flavor this last decade…

Forget the Facebook link, failed lmao
It was Norm on the news wishing George Burns a happy 100th b-day, with his picture on one corner of the screen, and then he says “You know, I don’t know the secret to George Burns’ longevity, but I think I speak for all of us when I say: “I HOPE PAULIE SHORE DOESN’T KNOW IT EITHER.”💀💀💀
Pauly Shore was 57 Feb.1, as would Lisa Marie Presley were she still with us.
The first cast was the only funny cast. They are boring and too biased politically to be fun anymore.

Great 👍 I hope it continues. They aren’t afraid of making fun of Trump, Biden, McConnell or any other political figure. The day a country starts banning comedy is an early warning sign of authoritarianism.
Well each their own, some of their content isn’t all that funny I agree.
I would also point out that isn’t a knock on Trump this time. It’s actually quite concerning the level of anger and resentment that the left has towards comedy. I used to think it was conservative people who couldn’t handle a joke, now it’s college students and people on the left that can’t take it.
Cheers to SNL & cheers to the good times. Cheeseburger, Cheeseburger, Cheeseburger!
it used to be very entertaining and funny, I looked forward to staying up late to watch it. I gave up on it... went down hill.
Some of the most creative of humor!!!

I have never watched a full episode. Only skits that apply to things I have liked. It's not really my kind of humor.
What else could NBC air late night Saturday?
They should've given it up around `82. That's about when they stopped being funny.
When the show became a blatant front for political commentary, it lost its humor.
It might not be funny for you, but obviously for enough others. The skits with Alex Baldwin as Trump are hilarious. :-D
https://www.youtube.com/embed/3Ar80sFzViwit used to be funny, but I have not watched it in decades.
Yeah, they had two great runs. 70s and 90s. Now they suck!
I haven't watched it in years. I don't know if I've matured and don't find it funny anymore or there is no humor in it anymore
SNL jumped the shark about a generation ago.
Long time, it used to be good back then but I really don’t watch it anymore, I certainly wasn’t watching it when it first aired, I doubt my parents would have approved that when I was 8 years old
Nice show but it’s not like it used to be. There’s one other show that passed Gunsmoke up. It’s a daytime soap on ABC. That’s been a business for over 60 years and that’s General Hospital at 2 PM Monday through Friday on the East Coast
It used to be funny. It was best in the late 80s - early 90s.
What about Rosanna Danna Banana?
My YouTube always pops up with skits on it. I never watch the show anymore but love watching the ones that show up on YouTube. The beavis and butthead one where Heidi lost it was hilarious.
The original was groundbreaking TV comedy with brilliant scripts. Around the last 15 or 20 years like everything else on TV it got woke and coopted by the left.
F'ing amazing. There's a great article in a recent New Yorker about Lorne and SNL.
Agreed, 101%. It's a shiftless, mindless shadow of its' former self, but the first half-decade or so was great.
No matter who is on the show in what year, it's the same guy behind all of it. If you found it funny then, it's funny now. Same shit. It's not the faces on your TV - it's the guy behind the scenes
I grew up SNL and Im happy that it's still on.
Shallow, slapstick and some nonsense humor is sometimes appreciated. I’ve been enjoying their antics for decades.
You do know trump once hosted the show
The very channel he now "hates", he once hosted the show on
I agree! Comedy used to be funny.
It’s still a great concept.
I watch the first episode on Hulu when my favorite comedian to host. I’ll be watching the 50th.
Agreed, it's not really funny anymore. It's just another liberal mouthpiece.
I used to like Mad TV.
It has been dead a long time...
That's incredible
