Agree or disagree? Sadness is the mind's way of healing from trauma

I was pretty sad recently....what helped me get over it was recognizing that EVERYONE is dealing with the same problems. Everyone has sad moments.

That got me thinking about the purpose of sadness. I remembered a saying that goes like "it's good to be sad because that's when you grow." Obviously, you can grow when you're happy too. But I'm not cynical. I tried to understand what it was really saying.

What I realized is that I cried the most when I tried to do something that I had previously felt I failed at. Or when anything happened that reminded me of a traumatic experience.

Now it isn't wrong to tell people "don't cry" because if you just sat around crying, it defeats the purpose of crying. Crying makes you feel better. When you feel better you'll be able to push yourself forward.

Sadness is like using the restroom. If you don't allow yourself to be sad (by taking pills, crying too much, etc.), "toxic waste" builds up because you haven't let go of it. To let go, you can either 1) stop trying, stop desiring (helpful for depression). 2) focus more on what you want. 3) unite in a partnership to overcome any deficits that are holding you back. 4) just go try again at what you failed at.

I've noticed that people who come from abusive families will marry someone who was like their abusive father/mother. But, they'll try to build a family free of abuse. This helps them to let go of their past.

To be strong you have to be sore. 💪🏻
