If the kid feel that step-parent deserves the mum / dad title then so be it. If step-parent insists on kid calling them mum / dad, and the kid doesn't want to, then they can fuck off.

I would expect where there is a co parent arrangement, the original parents are mom and dad. And the new parents are called by name.
