I think others looked at me as one of the cool kids but I gravitated toward the misfits, like the ones that were shy and seemed isolated. I always wanted to make them feel better and for them to know that they were liked and could be a part of the social structure. I always hated the clicks that didn't want anyone else in their group. To me they were not the cool kids even though they thought they were.

I was one of the cool kids, extremely popular up until I was about 14, then due to a major trauma, I became the shy quiet type and missed a year of school and when I went back, started to slowly make friends again but never got that popular again.

I really like that song, but no, I was never "cool" in school. I was more of an outsider, I never really belonged there, so maybe I should have become emo/Goth.

I was a headbanger that was more like a preppy headbanger considering I lived in an somewhat rich neighborhood My parents made a good living and had a nice home , so I still had nice clothes but I kind of dressed on the grungy side , I just had the long hair and the leather biker jacket and wore rock and metal shirts , backwards hat and a dangling chain wallet and black boots with nice jeans lol best way to describe myself lol I loved Rock and metal music , I still do today , I got in trouble a bunch of times at school from doing silly things cuz I liked making people laugh , But Some people prejudged me thinking I was intimidating until they got to know me and realized I had a good heart , Most teachers just saw trouble walking down the hallway some teachers hated me and some I had wrapped around my finger and loved me o Even though I was bad and getting in trouble a lot I would catch my principal laughing at times cuz he knew I was just messing around and he loved how I would talk my way out of things and make up some lame story as to why I was getting in trouble , He actually put a plaque on his wall that said Award for Student that kicked out of the most Assembly’s in My High School with my name on it, No lie , I laughed my ass off , I was always considered an outgoing guy and not shy what so ever , I had a lot of friends cuz I never really judged anyone if they were cool with me I was cool with them , and I was known for having the best Party’s cuz my parents were pretty laid back that way , they rather me and my friends drink at the house and party instead of getting in trouble out in the woods somewhere and getting busted by cops lol My parents rules were if you are drinking you are sleeping over , All my friends were cool with that and loved coming to my house to party , My brothers and I set up the whole basement as a party room , A lot of good memories in that basement lol I only dealt with the law a few times but I never got in trouble , I was good at talking my way out of things and a good bullshitter lol , So I guess I was a little bit of both misfit / cool kid , I hate labeling myself but that’s the best way I can describe myself , I never really cared on what people thought of me , you either liked me or hated me , my school was filled with a bunch of snobby kids that thought their shit didn’t stink but some were cool and some were complete douchebags I had my group of friends the Headbangers that stood by each other’s side but I was always chasing the preppy girls , cuz they were hot and I guess i felt like I can break them from their shell , And yes I accomplished that a few times lol Those girls hated me at first until they got to know me and realized I wasn’t that bad lol I just liked being wild and outgoing but I always was told I had a huge heart , I look back at myself now and just laugh on how we change as we get older , but Deep inside I am still that headbanger but more matured I guess lol

My high school was full of the first Millennial pussies I can remember. I went to high school in the mid 2000s. Although they wouldn't be noticeable until about 2009-2012, and wouldn't go "woke" until about 2014, there was still plenty of Millhouses and emotionally weak students when I was in high school. The kind to piss their pants if they forgot to do their homework. The pinnacle of "lame." And I wasn't even a bad kid or troublemaker or anything; I just came from an abusive household who had bigger problems to worry about in life than failing some math test.

So I was GLADLY an outsider in high school. Although this was more in junior and senior year. In 9th and 10th grade, I was unintentionally popular due to being athletic and a straight A student. Like, I didn't chase after popularity, nor did I really care about it; I just was. But then I stopped growing and remained short all throughout high school, causing me to become depressed and suicidal. I was also having more fights and stuff at home. I lost the superficial popularity I had, but I didn't care about that anyway; I just wanted to go through puberty and was in a war with my own body in why it never happened with me. (To this day, I still loathe my body and consider it being locked up in a prison cell with your worst enemy.)

So I was option A in the first half of high school, then option B in the second half of high school, but didn't care about popularity either way. So I voted Option C: Other.

I would hang out with just about anyone. I knew most of the popular kids in HS, and was friends with a lot of them. I suppose they were the ones I hung out with the most, because of the type of classes I took and because I was in a lot of sports (but not the stereotype jock sports ).

I also knew and hung out with the outcasts. Some of them were friends also. I knew a lot of the slow learners in special ed classes, and some of them were friends also.

Dating was the same. I dated girls on the opposite end of the spectrum.

I've always been kind of fascinated by "cool". Like what makes someone cool? It's not the same as popular. One thing for sure is that cool comes naturally to people. If someone is dressing or acting in a certain way because it's cool, then it doesn't work.

I've never figured out why some music is cool and some isn't. If someone likes a certain kind of music that isn't cool, then so what? But those are just words. Because some kind of music really is more cool than others. It makes no sense.

Cool is an absolute term even though it is a nebulous reference without any one true definition.

This term does not correlate to Weather or Thermodynamics.

It is not a reference to relative temperature as to degree or gradation.

Ever person has their own perception or reasoning to access if someone is or is not cool.

You are either cool or not cool.

This is not your decision. Only others can determine if you fall into their category of cool.

You cannot be sort of cool because if you are then you are not cool all of the time thus being not cool because to be cool you have to be cool 24-7/365.

If you begin to think that you are cool you have taken an irreversible step away from coolness.

If you know you are cool then you are absolutely not!

The only way to be cool is to be cool while not having any idea that you could ever entertain the idea that you might ever be cool now or in the future.

Even if you were actually cool by consensus yesterday, you can wake up and be not cool for absolutely know fathomable reason.

The pursuit of cool is antithetical to being cool and can cause permanent irrevocable un-coolness.

It is easier for things to be cool than for people to be cool. People do things to be un-cool and things do not.

It is better just to be yourself, and hope for the best.

I was basically a misfit. I didn't have many close friends, but I had some kind of connection to just about everyone.
I was on every sports team, and since every team consisted of the same bunch of cool guys plus me, I had to get along with them (and vice versa), even though they were kind of twats.
I used to play football with the dumb, trouble-making guys every lunch break.
I got along with the nerdy guys, since I guess I was one.
And my best friends were probably the cool girls, who were actually by far the most pleasant people there (though just friends, unfortunately - and in fact there were only two couples in the entire school). The stereotypical "bitchy cheerleader" type of girl didn't really exist at my school (I'm fairly convinced that it's just a product of Hollywood).

I'd say I was popular in my own class (like everyone my age even if in different sections) but not in the entire school - Outside and sometimes during class I was loud brash (literally had that mr. Troublemaker written on my prom sash) and definitely insulted more than a few people just for fun - very philosophical and smart and jokey when in class - I was also good looking - Well I still am all of these so it's all good - I had a friend who like you liked talking to "misfits" so the group of guys that hung out together was almost the entire class even if I caused some trouble with some of them they knew I was joking I just liked seeing them get mad..

It's was a werid time. I wanted, and will always want, to be one of the cool kids. You could make the case that I climed the social ladder over the years and since I got along with everyone I kinda started my own gang of misfits and it grew to substantial size even had many guys considered B tier cool as a part of it.

The weird thing is that ny high school many of the really "cool kids" had changed schools since they couldn't keep up with the level and the few that stayed just weren't as cool anymore so we did end up being the cool kids it just never felt like it because we were still the same people, the funny thing is me who started as a complete social outcast in preschool ended up prom king at graduation

I didn’t really do much high school to get any kind of rankings the last grade I completed was the eighth and the ninth grade I was to busy getting kicked out of every school around until I finally got the boot out of my parents house but I would say I was a somewhat popular misfit really I was a pissed off kid that nobody wanted around adults anyways but whatever everybody had issues of some sort but most of the girls liked me and my little click pretty much listened to me because I was a hustler

I was a misfit across the board. Never really had a clique I belonged to. I kind of had people I knew and was cool with in most of the cliques, but I didn't really fit in.

Never got invited to parties. Wasn't seen as popular. Wasn't good enough to be considered a jock until my Junior year. Didn't do much after school activities outside of sports and my job.

I was sort of in-between all. I had connections with nerds as a reader and was good in science. Played sports, and friends with the sport boys which gave me a pass with the popular girls thinking I was their “in”. I was into weird things and loved x-files so clicked with the oddball crowd to. I floated nicely under the radar.

I had several different groups that I hung out with in school. I wouldn’t say I was in the most popular group but then again the ones who were in that group were the only ones who thought they were cool. It didn’t matter to me if you had money or not or if you were consider weird or something. If you were a nice person I considered you a friend and I didn’t care what others thought. So many of the “cool kids” found out after graduation that they were just a number in the real world.

well im a "Jock" but most of my friends are troublemarkers or raging lesbians, Hell my bestfriend tried to stab the principle in middle school and got sent to juvie, He back now, So i guess im part of the "Bad kids" But i dont get in trouble so i dunno

If you are not doing bad things to people than you are good, not to worry. There is nothing wrong with lesbians and stay away from the trouble makers, they will just drag you down with them.

That doesn't mean that your friends have to be perfect, it just means that they want to try to be better as you do.

A few of the schools I went to had cool kids that were actually popular. And they were friendly with everyone so everyone felt like they were cool because nobody was excluding them.

I was nerdy and shy, but not full nerd enough to stay in that group. And those geeky fucks are less accepting than even the jocks and mean girls. The jocks harassed me, and the mean girls never looked my way. So all I had left was the "druggies" as they were called back in my day.

Funny, the druggies were generally decent people and more accepting than any other cliche.

Most everyone else just pretends to be decent.

Nah, I could never really fit in with the "cool kids" no matter what. Had nothing in common, didn't find anything they talked about interesting, found some of their issues too dumb or stupid, didn't like the parties much and didn't like drinking or any of that. Had my own group of friends that I knew I could count on and hung out with them all the time. In the end, I had more fun with them than I ever could have with the "cool kids" so I think it worked out pretty well.

I was a misfit and loved being one. Also being friends with outer misfits was much easier. Because there was next to no high school aged drama, everyone was themselves and friendships where honest friendships. As an adult the same can be said about my friendships with other misfits.

I always would to able to fit in from group to group. Had all different kinds of friends and what not.

I didn't see things from a social status pov back in high-school, I saw everyone the same so maybe that's why.

I was liked by everyone, officially friend-zoned by most girls. I was athletic, polite, I knew everyone, but I didn’t go hang out with the “cool” kids. I migrated towards others that need friends or were shy. I had all kinds of friends from all different walks of life. Not one of the “cool” kids at all. Just me.

Cool kids gravitated towards me but I didn’t like big cliques. I liked having one cool friend and just associated with everyone else. Quality over quantity is how I’ve always liked my friends.
