1.) What do you suggest would be a good place for someone to make friends with women genuinely?
Maybe a class of some kind, a popular hangout?

2.) What is it you would want to get out of a friendship with a guy?
Someone to talk to, who will genuinely listen to you, and share thoughts about differences between men and women.

3.) Tips for approaching ladies with the interest to make friends, and not just to hit on all of them?
Ways to clarify intention right off the bat, maybe ways to not come across as gay just because he talks about his feelings.

Yeah, the only thing I can really say is that I agree with secretsofKB. It's kind of weird and creepy for guys who are specifically wanting to make female friends only. You can join some sort of club or something, maybe Church, but really other than that I'm not sure how people your age make friends. My mom picks them up at grocery stores, but she is a social butterfly.

Honestly, it's because I want to understand women better, to be a better boyfriend in the future. But more importantly, I am not into the typical things guys are. Cars, sports, the gym, drinking. Plus they are cocky and sometimes complete assholes.

If you want to understand women better, ask your mom, sisters, cousins. Some strange woman cannot teach you what you need to know. And like I said, even if that is really the only reason you are actively searching for only female friends, it comes off as creepy and pretentious.

#1 definitely high school. By time i reached college i no longer had interest in making male “friends”. I was more interested in if i’d meet a future husband.
#2 I just enjoyed feeling protected and knowing someone had my back against all the unnecessarily rude guys and girls who came my way. But i also enjoyed having someone to go on double dates with
#3 Being interested in “just being friends” becomes harder to believe after a certain age so I don't know

My best advice to you is to not go looking for it and to just let it happen naturally.

Join a club or go volunteer somewhere. Just talk to them just like you would anyone else.

A female friend suggested a martial arts class. But I doubt women would be taking that kind of class.

Also there is that risk of meeting married women who may not be able to have guy friends.

And I don't want to do something that will introduce me to only men when I don't have much in the way of common "manly" interests.
