I have been in that situation many times. If it wasn't for my family and friends that were very supportive it's a time of hardship for me. which was very helpful. Give her much support as a friend. Ask around job referrals with some of your contacts. Sometimes government have employment opportunities.

Help her find new employment. If you have a job opening at your place of employment you could probably help her get on. At my kob if you refer someone like a friend or family member, they will give a extra bonus.
