Why does almost everyone suffer from anxiety these days?

I met with a friend last week for a buffet dinner. So we started to talk as usual then I told her I wanted to get some food. She stood up, held my hand, followed me to the food section. After that, she didn’t even pick her plate but took the food and put it on my plate. I asked her why did she do that. She said she is shaking so she’s afraid that she will break all those bowls/plates/mugs 😳 Another friend of mine was the same but this one seems to suffer from “hurry sickness” She would arrive earlier than our scheduled time but once we meet up, she will keep looking at her watch saying she doesn’t want to go home late and easily get distracted to the point that it would ruin our time together. My colleague- went to get coffee with her at this cafe and she stood behind me while I was ordering my drink then all of sudden she sat at this one corner. I said you need to order by yourself and wait for them to call your name. It is self-service. She went at the counter and got back to the seat. When the cashier called our name, figured she ordered exactly the same drink. I’m like bruh? Can I just meet someone who is normal? Does anyone here know people like this around you?

I think social media also makes everyone super focused on each other. Possibly.

Like for instance, I went to the grocery market yesterday, and it’s been a long while (for me anyways, out of my household), and as I was walking down the aisle, I see one guy with no cart, walking opposite of me, and he’s just walking straight and I’m walking to the register. He goes on his phone for a minute, but I feel tension build as I approach.

I’m literally just watching with my peripheral and he watches me for a bit when he’s just about to pass me.

Why couldn’t we be just two people in a grocery, who don’t make a big deal about other people there?

I mean, the tension would’ve been avoidable if we had just focused on our personal lives.

Ig maybe I can just thank the grocery architects, or furniture designers, for making those aisles with nothing on the sides but just being a travel aisle.

I think everyone is too focused on others. I’ve always just been observant, though.

I don't know at some point, I need to forget people in public, and other times just go out of my way to make small-talk. It IS a community. This constant tension is overrated. I’m done 😂

We certainly don't know how to relate to people in public with the same adroitness that we used to. We either ignore each other, there is tension, or too much friendliness. At least in many situations

People have lost the weight of personal responsibility, which gives their lives meaning and significance. It makes smaller problems seem insignificant, and big problems seem manageable. On top of that people have lost an external guiding principle and therefore they become more anxious. And what makes it even worse is many people are used to quick dopamine hits from scrolling and that can make them flighty, easily distracted, or easily anxious as their brains are continually looking for new stimulation and getting upset because they're not finding it

We live in a fast-paced world where people are constantly jockeying for social position and status. You have to understand that people are also living extremely unhealthy lifestyles.

It's just not a recipe for success.

Great question, and one I've wondered for a long time too. So many people have anxiety, even friends and co-workers. The funny part is that they never seem to have it until they come out and tell me. And I'm like 'wow, you never seemed like you had anxiety to me,' and they say they're either on medication or they just learn to control it in public.

I get surprised too when someone tells me they have ADHD but don't seem like it. Both are pretty common in our world today.

We live in troubling times as of late, inflation running rampant, lack of livable wages from jobs, skyrocketing housing costs, and outrageous weather patterns thanks to climate change all contribute to our collective anxiety.

a lot of it also stems back to child hood, if our caregivers were not around to attend to our every need especially as infants then later on in life we get anxiety, especially over fears of abandonment.

there's just a lot of factors. I think you should try to be empathetic to whatever they are experiencing. Maybe even ask them things about their life if you are close enough to have that talk with them that is. We cannot all be normal or mentally healthy. Unfortunately that is just how life is in our current world. Lets just try to be understanding and hopefully we can all try to work to make future generations less anxious.

It's mostly cause there are people in their late 30s and after that who don't understand this things. So when a person is in early stages of anxiety or/and depression they have no help. And people around them make it worse. That's what's happening all around the world.
