One of my mum's sisters just announced she's pregnant, at 56 years old. Mind you, they've got 4 older kids. Two of whom are married with kids of their own.
Even if I hadn't hit menopause yet, I think I would be too embarrassed to have another child at that age. But I can see the benefits.
if she honestly cared for the baby, she would abort it. because there is no way she would be able to raise that child. she would be retired by the time the kid is still less than 10 years old. how is this kid going to attend college? what sort of childhood would she able to provide this child? how is this child going to turn out? is it fair to intentionally create a child who can't function like a normal human being? we already have enough kids with disabilities, learning disorders, mental illnesses.
well my aunt's got a big family who COULD look after the baby should anything happen to her. of course at 56 she's still healthy and active so thats unlikely. Not sure why you think at 56, you think women automically become decrepit and immobilized. She'll provide the same childhood she did for her other 4 kids.
and she didn't intentionally create the baby. accidents happen especially when in your late 50s and it is assumed to be harder to get pregnant.

I never talked about who could look after the baby. I am talking about who would be supporting the kid for the next 25 years up and throughout college? she's on the brink of retirement!! How is she going to raise this child being retired? The kid wouldn't even be 10 years old before she retires. Employers can force you to retire even if you dont want to especially if your cognition isn't working like it used to. Will this child just not have the opportunity to obtain a higher education so it can obtain a decent job when it grows up?
This is an extremely important to the future welfare of the child.
Not only the fact that the mother wouldn't have the energy or playfulness to provide this kid a great fun childhood.

her husband is likely older than her and retire earlier from her. What is likely going to happen is that they will be retired long before the child is grown. And they will find odd jobs to support this kid on the bare minimum. This kid will likely not be attending college. The child will on its own in many ways (especially mentally) way before it turns 18. Parenting is stressful and difficult for parents at any age but especially difficult for old parents. They will have a very hard time supporting the kid financially, mentally, physically and likely will be looking for every reason to eject the kid as soon as possible from their hands.
in order for a child to be successful, parents do need to continue paying for their kids past the age of 18. kids who are kicked out at 18 have an enormous rate of not doing well in life.

A child can attend college happily without having parents to hold their hands all the time- it helps when they've got (also college educated!) older siblings as well to help out. Helps when the family is tight knit like OURS.

there are a lot of consequences of having a baby at 56. And the child will be the only one to suffer.
no relative is gonna shell out 30,000 for a relative to go to college. Its not gonna happen. I have enough life experience to know.
and college is only possible if the child turns out ok. there is a pretty big chance that this might not happen.

your egg quality does deterioriate through life so it impacts the offspring. you would have to pray to god that kid will come out fine.
yes you do lose your ability to care for someone as you age. you can't care adequately for someone else if you could barely care for yourself. thats why people need home health aides when they get old.
well then we'll have to see in 4 months time when she gives birth. Better that than kill the child.
And speak for yourself.. my grandma is 70 and she still cares, fusses over and loves on her great grandchildren. She lives with them.

when parents get old... they lose their playfulness , sense of adventure and immaturity which makes them less capable of playing and having fun with their kids. Its especially hard taking care of a toddler when you can't chase after them or when your back hurts picking them up from the ground.
best bet is to give the kid over to adoption so that the kid can be raised by people who can actually provide the child a good childhood.

That would be so amazing!! Everyone would be so happy. Especially my two kids…they always tell me to have more kids lol. My second husband wants his own. So yeah, we are ready if it happens. It would add so much joy to our life and to our big family!

I wouldn't plan for a old pregnancy like that but if it was a accident then yes I'd keep the baby
Age is just a number. My old college teacher's father was 50 years old when she was born. He died at 75 when she was 25. So it's a blessing 😊

This is pretty recent in my mind. We had a hot weekend in new York a few months ago and despite her having had her tubes tied, she thought she might be pregnant. Those were my exact series of thoughts.
