Ways to help my brother?

So my brother has a slight fear of getting his hair cut short, he has told me he wants it done but is scared he'll hate it, He is scared it'll be to cold and he doesn't really like the noise of the clippers.

He explained to me that he wants to get it clippered down to 1" of hair all over in a buzzcut.

How do I help him get over his fear so he can just get it done? I wanna be a good sister and help him.

Noise of the clippers? Do you mean the electric kind? This may seem weirdly particular of me, but this might actually make a difference: does he have the same issue with scissors? If not, it might be a sensory thing, which could indicate a whole other issue.

Yeah it's the electric ones, He has autism so has to be a sensory thing.

Heh. I was going to mention that I'd seen that kind of thing before; my best buddy has Asperger's, and having him get a haircut was always a pain; the sound and sensation of the clippers was awful to him, but scissors were okay. I was going to suggest that, while I'm obviously in no position to make a proper claim, it MIGHT be a sign of some level of autism.

When Queen Elizabeth was afraid her dental treatment would hurt, her dentist tried to reassure her it would be okay by removing his own tooth in front of her. He had to do it 3 times before she trusted him to fix her teeth. Cut your hair in front of him to prove to him it does not hurt. You could just slice one or two hairs in front of him.

Maybe you could go with him when he gets it cut? You're such a good older sister for wanting to help him. Let him know that if he doesn't like it it will grow back. I think just going with him when he gets it cut will make a difference in how he feels. Just knowing he has your support.

I just recently buzzed my hair to encourage my sister to finally do the same because she kept putting it off. I actually really like it. If he doesn't like it, hair grows back. He can always wear a hat until it does.

And the clippers actually feel pretty nice on your head. Tell him to listen to music and not to focus on the noise.
