He himself told me to leave him alone after an argument, why does he now misses me?

I had a crush on Max for 2 years. We're in 10th grade and he found in Nov. He overheard me at the cafeteria talking about him with my 2 friends.

Last month, he confronted me about it in a very arrogant manner and mocked me about having visible hairs on my nose. I had enough and denied ever liking him and said he was nothing but garbage. We insulted each other. It was a horrible day. My two friends supported me and told him to get lost too. The following day, a classmate hand me a letter he wrote to me. In there it was a fake, mocking apology, my name deliberately mispelled, saying he was ever going to ask me out anyway and to leave me alone, to go **** myself.

Two weeks ago, I was hanging in the library (on the couch) with my friends. All of the sudden Max comes barging in with his friend, starts saying 'What the ****'' three times as soon as he saw me. My friends and I ignored him at first. Then I had enough with his disgusting, ugly stare at me as if I was some type of plague to avoid. I excused myself, preparing to leave and then he seemed shocked. He kept asking ''Are you leaving, are you leaving, no, don't go, no''. I said ''yes goodbye''. He tried to stop me, saying he'll be nicer, to please stay. I handed him back the letter I've saved and said ''You clearly wanted me to leave you alone. That's what you wished for and you got it, bye''.

He literally followed me all the way to the cafeteria. I heard a low, faint ''Please, I'm sorry''. Eventually I got him lost in the crowd. I don't understand. He told insulted me and told me to leave him alone. He got what he wanted. Why does he now misses me?

I don't understand. He is an arrogant, jerk and acts grossed out. He was being mean, tells me to leave him ok. Then when I'm leaving he had a pikachu expression. What on earth did he expected?
