If I need to cancel a meeting the person already knows I'm not coming. If an activity starts at certain time, I'm there either 10 minutes earlier or at the exact time. On the few circumstances (ex: a terrible traffic jam, an urgent appointment, etc) I'm running late, I'll apologize for the inconvenience and tell them a new arrival time.
A social, trekking activity will take place this Saturday scheduled for 1:30 pm but I have a doctor's appointment that day at 9 am. I have to call the organizer of the event and inform him I'll probably be running late. I don't know how long my appointment will last and the activity is far. It's likely I won't make it on time.
I don't do what many people in my country do: tell someone I'm on the way and nearby (if I'm still at home and far) and then come late. This gets people by surprised. I really hate tardiness. Yet I'm Latina. Is this rare, to be on time on a culture where many are always late?
