I am an 17 years old norse pagan and a big fan of Vikings tv show. I was rewatching the show and there was a bloody scene, my dad get into my room to bring in my new earrings that i ordered and see the scene... he insulted me for watching this and said "if i see you watching this shit ever again you can't go out for a year and we will take your computer and phone" then he grabbed my favorite picture i draw that i put next to my bed, it was a portait of ragnar, then he grabbed my books about norse mythology and throwed them in the trash, i feel terrible, i talked to my older sister about this and she said "he will get over it but also you should" but i can't help. I feel terrible.

Find out WHY he hates it so much. That's a legitimate question and any reasonable parent will explain why. It's what we'd call "a teachable moment". I want to be clear: You are not confronting him and arguing for yourself. You are calmly asking him to explain his reasoning for why is so against the show. If he asks why you are asking, you say "Because you are my father and I assume you know something that I don't as to why I should not be watching that show. So, in the interests of learning your reasoning, I am asking."

I’m sorry your parents did that to you. Whether it is right or wrong they could have handled it better. Unfortunately while you are under their roof it is their rules, got to follow them or get better at hiding what you’re doing. Personally I think having an interest in Vikings and their beliefs is pretty harmless, difference in liking something and making it a lifestyle (which to each their own). Just breathe. You’ll get through it and eventually when you’re able to move out you’ll have a lot more freedom than you do now

I'm sorry this happened to you wow, thank God my late mom was easy on us kids now my dad and her used to argue about our safety going to school when roads were bad from snow, ice, he wanted us to go to school on bad roads, he ran our house like Hitler, and he made us sleep in a cold house, but my dad controlled the heat in the house it was horrible. When he would turn the heat up, we thought it was a present to us, my late mom didn't care. She was so cool, I miss her, she used to let girls come over and hang out with me.

Your parents didn't handle it very well. I used to watch stuff like that as well. Not anymore. Now that I understand why such programs exist and the danger they pose, I will never watch them again. One day, you might realise your parents saved your life, but right now (just as I was none the wiser back then), you think they have done you wrong. They were wrong to insult you, that's all.

It has nothing to do with that! Have you ever asked yourself why they spend billions creating so many violent scenes with closeups of the most gruesome parts, building deep story-lines so you get lost in it, costumes, props, special effects and so much more? if you think it's just to make money then you are mistaken.

But back when I used to watch things like that, I could not see the damage it does to yourself, so nothing a person said would make any difference. Your parents did you a huge favor. Even they probably don't know the depths it goes to either.

Be patient, Padawan. If you haven't already turned 18 you soon will. Then there's not a lot they can do. Especially when you eventually get your own place.

Thats way easier said than done but it is not impossible. And trust me, it is well worth the wait and the long hours at work.
