Some Latinos and Blacks are raising kids without spanking, is this a new trend?

My parents are Latinos themselves and nope, I never got spanked. They were both spanked growing up but disagree with hitting kids. They think it's so pointless and doesn't teach the kid anything, other than fear. It never got in trouble at school nor with the law and did good at student.

Then one of my friends is black. He has two younger sister. None of them were ever spanked. His parents have similar concept as mine, that we have brains to use and if you have to hit a child to make a point you already lost.

If I had kids one day, I'm not spanking either. Is that a new growing trend? That a couple Latinos and Blacks are opting against spanking.

I did good at school and never got in any major trouble whatsoever. Same results obtained as those who claimed to have gotten spanked a lot and were modeled citizen. You can have that without spanking too.

I think it probably is. I'm black and got spanked as a kid too and it didn't cause me any kind of trauma, but as an adult I too don't think it's something I would do to any kids I might have either. Spanking doesn't actually make a kid go straight, because lots of kids in our black and Latino communities got spanked and still grew up being badasses getting into trouble elsewhere. So spanking really doesn't make a kid into "a fine young man" or anything.

To understand spanking you have to understand the origin. Many parents of ages past - although I think mostly in the black community - believed in spanking kids because of the concept of "spare the rod, spoil the child" which is alluded to in Proverbs 13:24. I really have no idea if the Old Testament Hebrews really hit their kids with a rod or not, or if that passage is just figurative of that, although I lean towards yes they did. Other cultures have used beating a person as a means of 'discipline,' not just blacks and Latinos. But I think there are other ways that parents can discipline kids.

It's more about the advances of education and science that less people are into corporal punishment for kids. There were already studies done and it showed to be damaging to a child's cognitive development and mental wellbeing.

I got spanked as a little kid by my father and as a now expecting mother, opted against it. I really don't believe that spanking kids prevents rebellious kids. Many of my former bullies from 7th grade (the worst school year ever) were hispanics kids that were spanked. It changed nothing. They still turned out to be ecocentric jerks lacking empathy. The ''you have to hit them for them to be decent citizens'' is a pure myth. A bunch of criminals here in my country were spanked.

You can still discipline a child without relying on household objects to hit children. I hate it when many people think lack of corporal punishment means lack of discipline.

You can look it up all groups but evangelicals are not beating their kids as much. I got the shit beat out of me but I come from the lowest of the white trash, so that comes with it.

I'm sorry to hear you got beaten badly. Some people just don't deserve kids. I really don't understand the point of beating a child, someone a lot smaller and weaker than you.

Thank you. I am glad to be here. I would like to say they are good people but not really. Growing up it was just twisted beliefs and racism and insecurity and rage. My Moms and Dad was more about beating the devil out of me and my sisters than sparing the rod. They have good hearts deep down but it's covered up in mean and awful. A lot of it is insecurity because of their secrets about their sexual weakness for big dick Blacks. They tried to beat it out of us and taught us the Blacks were all stupid violent animals that couldn't control their sexual impulses. I only learned later about the secrets. My Mom is very beautiful so I guess they could make money doing those things. Then when trump came along they got all religious and feeling as Christians they were being persecuted, especially by the Blacks and Black Lives Matter and DEI and whatnot. I had made a couple Black girlfriends and it got bad. The worst was when I was thinking of going off to that heathen college and they suspected I had sex with this sweet Black boy and was getting obsessed by his big dick, which was true. That's really dangerous in our town for the Blacks, and probably because of the Klan for our family, too. I did do that with more big dick Blacks in our town and I'm glad I did but I took beatings for the rumors and for being on the wrong side of the tracks and whatnot. Deep down beating kids is insecurity and rage and violence and parents taking it out on their kids thinking they are doing a good thing for them by beating them.

I'm glad the spankers are declining and people are progressing. There are so many ways to educate a child without hitting.
