My family and I had the opportunity to try Wagyu in Japan last summer.
Have you tried both in Japan? Can you tell the difference by the taste?

Kobe contains lot of intramuscular fat tissue it's a special breed limited to the region of Kobe. It's like Champagne, sparkling wine from Champagne region in France is called Champagne other sparkling wines are just sparkling wines or sekt.
Wagyu is usual Japanese meat cattle feed with special forage.
I think it's just marketing gibberish. I think grass feed meat beef will be always good and lot of intramuscular fat is caused by fat liver of those animals.
Thank you for the explanation…
I am more curious if anyone have tried both in Japan and if they can tell the difference.
This girl so well versed... so that means the Kobe is really not a healthy animal... it's being fattened, kind of like your average American?
Wagyu refers to different breeds of Japanese cattle. Not sure about Kobe.
Correct... I am curious if anyone can taste the difference if they had it in Japan.
Yes actually.. And let me tell you something you may not want to hear.. Wagu/kobe beef are both not worth the money they charge for it. Both taste good, but any properly cooked steak tastes good especially when you use sous vide method of cooking.
The problem with wagu, you almost have to cook it from frozen, cause as it thaws, due to excessive marbling, it melts. Yeah it tastes good, it's super tender. But not 100 plus dollars per pound good.
I had it in Japan last summer. Price was good. We had all you can eat shabu shabu for a family of 4 and it came out to be $40. pp. It was sooooooooooooo gooood.!! I want it again!
Nothing wrong with that.
Japan here I come. All I can eat 40$ I'm so down LFG
Yeah I'm talking about here in the states.
@Communicationisking yes, we had it in Kyoto. Just walking by some shops and went downstairs to a restaurant. The cool part about this is you can hear them slicing the meat. So fresh. We must have had over 40-50 plates... each plate with 4-5 slices of meat! melts in your mouth. I want to go back for more.
Hope you get to go soon.
I'm supposed to be going to Japan this year but not sure if I'm going to make it now.
I don't see the point. Why spend that much for a steak? Maybe if I was going to be executed and it'd be my last meal, but not by choice.
You funny.
After having a good quality piece… can’t go back.

No, I think the law of diminishing returns applies. I used to buy bottles of Premiere Grand Cru wines that cost$150-$200 new that require a decade of bottle age before they are drinkable. I realized this was wine snobbery and stopped buying anything pricey. Kobe & Wagyu are excellent but they are used in preparations that require cuts more responsive to braising. I don't think they are worth it except maybe NY steaks & Rib-eye steaks. If I'm going to get Wagyu short ribs to braise 3 hours I'm pretty sure the marbling will be sufficient for my needs
Fine!!! I give up im going out for steak dinner. I swear every other page i open is more steak , im only human after all. y impulse resistance is weak at best. Lol just kidding but I am hungry now.
Go have a nice piece of steak! Why not.
I like how you think
Ever since trump won people are "pushing back" against vegetarians propaganda and cow methane and democrat plan to monitor our diet!
I can't tell the difference, but I know my wife can.
Can you ask her?
@midnightmoon05 My wife says it's been awhile since she researched it, and then said that Wagyu and Kobe are both kinds of Japanese beef, and thinks one of them (she wasn't sure which one) involves massaging the cow daily to result in better beef..
I researched it myself and found this...
"Wagyu is a general term for a group of Japanese beef cattle breeds, while Kobe beef specifically refers to the Tajima strain."
So, Kobe is a specific kind of Wagyu beef, known for its marbling and tenderness.
I just got some Waygu steaks and i guess I will find out if there is a diffence.
I mean like enjoy it side by side and if one can tell the difference.
I'll need both... Just to be sure you understand... 😋 😊
You are the only one who understand my question.
I've not had the opportunity yet. You know your meats I must say.
I do like certain steak.
No, I haven’t been to Japan or tried Kobe steak I would like to
I've never had either of them so i wouldn't know
I have never had either one... ugggg
Hope you get to try it one day.
Nope. Outside of how much it costs. Tastes the same
Sadly I have never had either.
I don't think I could.
