Mostly people want to be heard to help them process information and reach their own decisions. Other people only occasionally have more than a fraction of the information to make a good choice for them, even if that were their genuine intent. And even on those occasions your advice is taking away an opportunity for them to grow in wisdom and confidence.
I advise you don't advise.
Actually it's not easy to give genuine advice without implying our own tendencies. I always keep in mind what a now passed away older friend sometimes said: I'm perfectly capable to be wrong on my own without help.

Suggestion and autosuggestion. You tell what would happen if person did this or that, what do you think what would happen, how would the person benefit of that?
Never act from your reference point always from theirs if really want to help them. Terms I, me, my, mine sound always very egocentric in language I speak, you, your, yours is much better.
I almost never give someone advice having me or my situation as reference...
I make sure to consider THEIR situation and to have them as reference
@Nikki1989 Not sure how you do that Nikki. We have our own internalized values and ways to approach things. Hard to advise someone and be neutral about that
Ask relevant questions and help that person understand the root cause of their issue so that they understand by themselves what they need to do.
I suppose you can always tell them to think clearly about the situation, and then they might figure it out on their own.
We can go over the issue constantly and reflect on what worked and didn't work based on past issues. Sometimes it isn't obvious for some people so maybe going over it multiple times but help them realize.
Act like you talking about someone else and what they would do
Thats hard to do cause your advice is based upon what you'd do if you was in that situation
